Residents of a village in Ang Thong province are living in fear after a 33-year-old man with a history of drug abuse and violent behaviour attacked a woman riding a motorcycle to work. The man, known locally for causing frequent disturbances, was later captured by police after fleeing into nearby woodland.

The incident occurred on the morning of 2 July in Moo 5, Ratchasathit subdistrict, Chaiyo district. Pol. Lt. Winai Wongdee, deputy inspector for crime prevention at Khaes Chaiyo Police Station, received reports that a man had violently assaulted a 49-year-old woman identified only as Ms. Duan, as she was riding her motorcycle to work along a small village road near the Tha Ruea ferry pier.

Upon arrival, officers found Ms. Duan with severe facial injuries, blood covering her face and nose. Witnesses reported she had ridden just 50 metres from her home when she encountered the suspect, identified as Mr. Ya, who was riding a bicycle. Unprovoked, Mr. Ya allegedly launched a brutal assault, leaving her seriously injured.

At the scene, police discovered Mr. Ya’s blue sandals and his radio speaker discarded nearby, along with a trail of the victim’s blood. His bicycle was found abandoned close to the site of the attack.

Ms. Duan was rushed to Ang Thong Vetchakarn 2 Hospital by relatives for emergency treatment.

Villagers revealed that Mr. Ya is notorious in the community for petty theft and disruptive behaviour, often attributed to his addiction to narcotics. Despite being arrested multiple times, he has repeatedly returned to the community, where his presence continues to cause widespread fear and unease among residents.

Police initially searched his home but found it empty. A local investigation team from Khaes Chaiyo Police Station later located and apprehended him hiding in nearby woodland. He was taken into custody and is now facing further legal action.

Authorities have pledged to pursue the case rigorously, amid growing frustration from villagers over the lack of long-term solutions to recurring criminal activity linked to substance abuse in their community.
