Has anyone here studied Shan aka Tai Yai?

Featured Replies

Reading about the various Tai languages piqued my interest. Shan is closely related to Thai and in Chiang Mai you'll hear it everywhere if you listen closely.

Has anyone here tried to tackle this language before? In a couple years once my Thai is solid I'll go for it.

Do they have writing or is only a spoken language?

It's essentially the Burmese script but simplified. Only 19 consonants, no constant classes, and clear tone markers.
