So trump tacoed the USA to the houthis?abandoned protecting the freedom to navigate on the seas…..you think that’s a win???that’s sad 😞

We'll be happy to protect your ships .... will you pay for it ?

Oh yea, and payment in advance, as we've learned what you say you'll pay, usually doesn't happen.   Your credit rating sucks.

This is before they fire one shot ...

Read the bottom paragraph, as not all inclusive cost ...

This is why I stopped producing (taxable) income & PAYING TAXES.  My money no longer supports this silliness.  24 or last 25 yrs, I paid NO TAXES 😎

  • Are they telling us that 2 ships crews fought off Houthi pirates on that body of water for 2 effin days and no navy USA or French or English didn’t rescue them or use the opportunity to kill the enemy

  • Sounds as if Trump's bombing of the Iranian empty nuclear storage was another win. Not?

Lots of people have tried that including President Trump. How has that worked out?  And what bleeding heart? Have you seen my express any sympathy for the Houthis? You're running on automatic pilot

Call it what you like. President Trump had the sense to realize it wasn't working. The US abandoned protecting the freedom to navigate in the gulf. Let someone try that on seas that are crucial to U.S. security. I think you'll find President Trump acting very differently. Just like those to whom the Persian Gulf is so important should be doing.

At least the known trouble spots, major shipping lanes.

Maybe they should register the ships with the USA.  USA registered ship are getting a pass, since Trump gave them a good spanking last month or so.

The problem is most of those ships wouldn't pass U.S. inspections or in any country that takes registration seriously. That's why they register their ships in countries like Liberia.

I don't know who you think is calling themselves the saviour of the human race. It's certainly not President Trump. In fact, he has stopped calling America anything like that. If somebody else wants that job, they can have it.

He is calling himself the saviour or did you miss that one?

He reposted a meme calling him the savior of western civilization. Not the human race. Anyway, who cares? This topic is  the sinking of ships by the Houthis.

US ranks as no 22 in the world ship registration league!

Clearly not enough of them.

Once again, not much of a problem for the USA. Primarily a European problem. Let them take care of it instead of running with their hands out to Uncle Sam, or, rather, Uncle Donald.

Posts like this make me think of history, when britan was (great) she was indirecting piracy and the slave trade she’s down on her heels a bit from ww2 los of empire ect ect we here in the states were more fortunate we along with our allies (pre trump) should be enforcing freedom of navigation no if ands or butts.this is just another example of trump putting America in full reverse.there are many many more examples of his malfeasance….education, trade, research, human rights, health, the constitution, the corruption of our democracy and on and on.to abandon a crew from any nation and giving up freedom of navigation to a pirate nation is criminal in my view.

I don't care who is responsible. I just don't want President Trump to get the US involved. He did a very wise thing by coming to a mutual non-aggression agreement with the Houthis without including Israel or other countries in the deal.

There was no agreement.

Asking others to do their fair share is not criminal. Western Europe and the Gulf States are very wealthy. There's no good reason why they shouldn't bear the burden  of patrolling these seas. America needs to direct its military sources further to the east where the real threat to its well being lies.

Trump announces deal to stop bombing Houthis, end shipping attacks

WASHINGTON/CAIRO, May 6 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday the U.S. will stop bombing the Houthis in Yemen, saying that the Iran-aligned group had agreed to stop interrupting important shipping lanes in the Middle East.
After Trump made the announcement, Oman said it had mediated the ceasefire deal, marking a major shift in Houthi policy since the start of Israel's war in Gaza in October 2023.
Under the agreement, neither the U.S. nor the Houthis would target the other, including U.S. vessels in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait, Oman said in a statement.

No. It is primarily for tax management, operating costs and labour laws. Added to that is the  ability to avoid sanctions.

The Russian and Iranian ghost tanker fleet all have flags of convenience so that they can engage in their sanction busting activity.

In order for a vessel to enter US, EU, Canada, Australia, NZ ports, a vessel must be  deemed seaworthy and not present a pollution hazard.  The countries cited can and do board foreign flagged vessels and perform inspections.

That deal worked out well then, same as his 90 trade deals in 90 days.

More embellishment. There was a ceasefire, not a formal agreement. The Houthis consider their position as  not engaging in retaliation, not an agreement. Oman's role was  messenger also reportedly included paying off the Houthi leadership. The Houthis were not attacking Russian or Chinese vessels.

Reuters called it an agreement. Which is what I called it. If you've got a problem with that, take it up with Reuters.

Not sure how, but their days are numbered, they want force, they'll get plenty, from Israel and the US.

He did NOT specify which nationality, but then again he often talks gibberish. By the way, nice try at deflection with your response.

Nothing new.  He continues to open his mouth without thinking.  And he never takes responsibility when things go south.

Well, they're still able to sink ships and launch rockets but Iran, their main providers are tetters

right now, so like I said, nor the US or Israel will let it go for too long.

And even if the US re-engages, which would be stupid. how will they stop it. The US and Israel have tried repeatedly and where has it gotten them? President Trump will direct America's military might where it's most needed - further east.

So, you're saying the Houthis are unbeatable against the might of the US and Israel? I don't think so.

The flow of missile and drone components from Iran has been greatly reduced.  It is just a matter of time before the Houthis run out weapons.  If Trump hadn't made a ceasefire deal the end would come even sooner.  U.S. strikes were taking their toll.

In that respect, the Houthis are rather like the Taliban.  Militarily inferior, yet here we are, $$trillions poorer for the effort.

Now you're just being ridiculous.

What does that have to do with the $4,239 per taxpayer that it cost us to NOT get rid of the Taliban.  And wouldn't it be stooppid to repeat that mistake to NOT get rid of the Houthis?

I'd point out that the gub'ment was lying to us in this 2022 (Biden era) report, given that the actual cost of the US Afghan war was over $2.2 Trillion (Source:  Brown University), not the $850 billion claimed on this report.  Meaning that the cost per taxpayer was closer to $11,000 than to $4,239.  That's a lot of coin only to watch the Taliban parading US military equipment around the country.
