A schoolgirl is safe and recovering in hospital after a dramatic early morning rescue from the Kok River, where she was found clinging to a tree in the river to stay afloat.

The incident occurred around 07:40 on 14 July, when Chiang Rai’s Sang Tham Rescue Foundation received an urgent call via the Muang Chiang Rai Police Radio Centre reporting that a young female student had fallen into the river near the Country Home Village, close to Chiang Rai Beach.

Emergency water rescue unit “Natee Sang Tham” was immediately dispatched, along with the foundation’s response vehicle “Sang Tham 704” and a long-tail boat operated by Cherdchai of Chiang Rai Pier. Upon arrival, rescue personnel located the girl in the middle of the river, clinging desperately to the tree to stay above water.

Rescuers managed to reach her in time and pull her safely aboard. After being brought ashore, she received initial first aid before being transported to Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital for further medical evaluation.

Officials have not yet released the student’s identity and the circumstances surrounding how she came to fall into the river remain under investigation.

The swift and coordinated efforts of the rescue team have been praised by the local community.
