What would seal the deal if you were looking for a Thai wife?

Mine stresses out if she gets to 43 kg. Swears off the sticky rice for a while.

I won't ask about the acronym, don't know what I may get. YMMV.

My wife was quite stressed at one point about her weight. We were living in Germany at the time and she worked in the officers mess.

Eventually, she confessed that she was being bullied by the girls for being slim!!!!!!

The standard response of mine is " Up to you".

Tried that....and she gets annoyed

I think she prefers me to make a decision....then I get to carry the can.

How would it be to have sensible choices, when asking a question. Just shows how you think. Thank you for being honest!

What would seal the deal if you were looking for a Thai wife?

Would the criteria be very different when choosing a wife of any other nationality?

Depends on how close she is to your age. The further away, the more money needed. Here if you have more than the average local, the age difference means little.

E) Loyalty and honesty (Not disappearing for weeks without explanation like my last girlfriend, not answering my questions.)

I would have up and left or changed locks after 48+ hours of not hearing from her. Double especially if I lived in Pattaya, but if I lived in Pattaya I'd never have a "gf" bc none of those women can be trusted.

As far as the OP criteria A), I met my now wife 5 years before our becoming an item sitting across from me with mutual friends at the Hachiban Ramen and saying to myself:

Now Mahoney -- behave yourself!

Not. Small money, nothing demanded by wife or parents

Sin sod for a farang is 200k and up (5k USD)

100k is nothing. Many farang burn thru that in a month or two. For me it's three. It's nothing.

You gave the parents money when you married her.

If you asked the parents how much sinsod did farang pay they would answer 100k

Too late now, but in hindsight, father owns a brewery

You're an idiot and so are your questions/ posts. I suspect you are Bignok, Sparktrader

Sin sod was not demanded by my wife or parents. In fact, there was no discussion of it whatsoever.

You pose a hypothetical question and you really, genuinely do not know the answer. My guess is no, her mother would not say that.

I gave something like 100k to her mother which was on top of the wedding costs / limits that I set. Here you go for the wedding...keep the extra

She handled the Buddhist wedding upcountry. I think the total was something like 6k USD.

You're a petty loveless small minded and CHEAP man

Says the guy who claims he didn’t even pay any sinsod.

Age vs bank balance vs average local's wealth - are these the REAL measurements of choosing a wife/partner? A 80 year old billionaire marring a 17 year old child, how does it feel like?

Have we humans lost all moral emotions or what?

Many have yes, along with the breakdown of the family unit, absent parents, and unrealistic expectations.

It isn't just the USA or what you think. People looking up to the rich and shameless and feeding their coffers.

What I'm getting from this thread, and what I have known for a long time, is that marriage is 90% about finances and maybe 10% about love (whatever that is).

And you can make all the BJ jokes you want. Marriage is not a long-term short-time gf.

You're just in a different scenario than most. You must have high status, because women will generally never marry down. Since marriage is 90% a financial arrangement and 10% love at most.

So you managed to get a higher status woman, which is not easy for most retired farangs to do in Thailand.

But it still proves that marriage is mostly a financial arrangement, even if you're not paying out. There's no way a woman with status will marry someone who brings little to the table.

So you didn't marry down as most. But you need to be at a certain level to do that.

And it's mostly all about the bling. What "seals the deal" is the unspoken financial arrangement, not much else.

I do not think so... My wife married me because love and stability... money was never talked about or an issue.... and even now, Everything we do with money is done with decisions made together. We both keep separate and joint accounts and also our kids have accounts we send money to monthly for their futures. When we decided to marry we had been living together and found we think alike on most everything. This is important. We both wanted the same type of future as well.

I think you have been around too many Isaan women haha... Money is not always a deciding factor in a marriage. People can adapt to another persons personality and whims and their general opinions on things to accommodate their partner. But at some point that builds up to cause problems with a marriage. Even in Thailand.

So you get more on a continuous basis. That shows your love is alive. Some women don't understand this, but they'll all show what they like and there's always something you can do to show you care. I get fake flowers so she'll always see them, looking alive.

yeah... i surprise her every mothers day and birthday and Valentines day by sending flowers to her office. Even though she does not have the appreciation showing. I know when she gets them she is all smiles and gets compliments all day with other workers in her office telling her their Thai man never does something sweet like that for them. I buy a cake as well for these occasions and send to her work. With the cake big enough for everyone in her office

I was told that by my ex and now girlfriend. It's when others comment that makes them happier also. My girlfriend bought me a cake for my birthday last year that had "Curry Man" written on it, as she knows I love her green curry. It's the little things. Learned this a long time ago and it always makes them happy.
