The Muay Thai roadshow, organised by the Royal Thai Consulate General in Guangzhou, launched in Liwan district on Friday, immersing locals in Thai culture as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of China-Thailand diplomatic relations.

This vibrant event has already made its mark in Xi’an, Xiamen, and Nanning, receiving high praise and enthusiasm. At its heart is Muay Thai, Thailand’s UNESCO-recognised intangible cultural heritage. This ancient martial art serves as a vital bridge for cultural exchange between the two nations.

Adding star power to the event, world-renowned Muay Thai champion Buakaw Banchamek showcased signature moves, captivating the audience with his skill and charisma. Moreover, attendees were invited to participate in a hands-on Muay Thai workshop led by professional fighters, providing an opportunity to learn the sport’s techniques and appreciate its cultural significance.

Beyond the thrilling action in the ring, the roadshow transformed the venue into a replica of a bustling Bangkok night market. Visitors enjoyed the dazzling lights, savoured authentic Thai street food, and browsed traditional handicrafts that attracted large crowds and fostered a deeper appreciation for Thailand’s rich culture.

This initiative underscores the importance of people-to-people exchanges and the role of cultural events in strengthening diplomatic ties. By sharing Thailand’s traditions and sports, the roadshow not only entertains but also educates, building a bridge of friendship and understanding between China and Thailand.
