In the tranquil setting of Narathiwat province, Thai police are intensively searching for a gunman who unleashed a deadly attack with an M16 rifle. The incident, which unfolded on 4 August at 3:35 PM, left a 50-year-old man dead and another person injured.

Police Colonel Prayong Khotrasa, the Deputy Commander of Narathiwat Provincial Police, and Police Colonel Suppachart Na Phatthalung, Chief of Ra-ngae Police Station, spearheaded the investigation alongside the explosive ordnance disposal unit. Their inquiry is focused on piecing together the events surrounding this shocking act of violence.

The victim, Amram Awagiji, a resident of Narathiwat, suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head and torso, leaving him dead at the scene. Meanwhile, Mahama Robi Hayima, a 60-year-old local, was caught in the crossfire, sustaining injuries to both ankles.

The violent episode took place in front of a house in the Machinang subdistrict, Ra-ngae district. A trail of blood led investigators to a wooden platform in a nearby fruit orchard, about 50 metres away. Here, they gathered 32 shell casings as crucial evidence.

Eyewitnesses recount that prior to the gunfire, a heated conversation occurred between the victim and the gunman at the wooden platform. The argument soon escalated, and the assailant resorted to using the M16.

In a desperate bid for survival, Awagiji attempted to flee towards the village road. However, the gunman relentlessly pursued him, continuing to fire and ultimately delivering fatal injuries. Tragically, at that moment, Mahama Robi Hayima was emerging from a shop nearby and was wounded by stray bullets.

Preliminary findings indicate that the shooting may have stemmed from a personal conflict. Authorities are delving deeper into the relationships and motives involved, determined to capture the suspect and bring them to justice.

This unsettling incident highlights ongoing challenges in the region, known for its periodic unrest. The community remains on edge as police intensify efforts to pursue leads and reassure residents of their safety.

As the investigation progresses, the quest for justice continues, with the hope of restoring peace to the area. Residents and officials alike await the apprehension of the perpetrator, underscoring the need for resolution amidst sorrow and fear.

Efforts to solve this case underline the broader complexities faced by law enforcement in maintaining security and order in Narathiwat. The community's resilience is on display, as locals rally together in support of the affected families while calling for swift action.

In this charged atmosphere, the police's determination to resolve the case remains steadfast, promising no stone will be left unturned in their efforts to deliver justice and peace to a community in mourning.
