What Witkoff really offered Putin on Ukraine: Media leak details

During a meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin, US special envoy Steve Witkoff voiced a "very lucrative offer," promising a gradual lifting of sanctions and a return to importing Russian energy resources, reports Onet.

According to the Polish media outlet, the proposal of the US special envooy, which he handed over to Putin, contained both points favorable to Russia and those with which the Kremlin had previously fundamentally disagreed.

Among the key positions allegedly announced by Witkoff in Moscow:

・Ukraine and Russia will sign a ceasefire;

・Actual recognition of Russian territorial gains by postponing discussions on this issue for 49 or 99 years;

・Lifting most sanctions against Russia;

・Return to importing Russian gas and oil in the long term;

・No guarantees of NATO's non-expansion;

   No guarantees to suspend military support for Ukraine.

Interesting.

Putin has wanted to claim all of the oblasts he has claimed as Russian, even the 20 percent of them they haven't occupied.

That list didn't mention that.

There is no way Ukraine could agree to the more outrageous Russian demand.

This is only for a ceasefire and promises a lot to Russia. Not about ending the war. Only a ceasefire.

What will Trump try to force Ukraine to give to actually end the war?

No mention of the stolen and brainwashed Ukrainian children. Ukraine will hold firm to demand their return.

Good news so far about NATO. Ukraine will not promise to never join NATO.

That list is not as bad as I had expected from Ukraine's POV but there is no good reason to be optimistic.

What Trump should have done is push Russia into a much weaker position long ago with aggressive secondary sanctions and military aid to Ukraine.

Yes Russia's economy is on the ropes, but it's not on the  ropes enough to force them into a deal Ukraine can live with.

Hard to predict but this kind of smells as a setup to shift the blame to Ukraine. Russia "agreed" to this and that (you can't trust what they say) and Ukraine wouldn't move enough.

Trump is Putin's poodle until fully proven that he isn't.

This is the easy part.

Sanctions aren't working, plus India and China don't seem terribly concerned about additional taxes on American consumers.

Trump is hoping he can avoid another TACO everyday.

One hopes the Russians have a sense of humor. Or that Witkoff does when he gets the Russian response.
