A man in his sixties was found dead, chained to a post, after a fire tore through a house in Sai Yok district, Kanchanaburi province, on 9 August.

Emergency services from the Nam Tok Sai Yok Noi Municipality, together with the Kanchanaburi Rescue Foundation’s Sai Yok Noi Centre, were called to the scene, a property in a plantation off Soi Sai Yok Noi 7 (Khao Thon) in Moo 3, Tha Sao subdistrict. Firefighters battled the blaze before bringing it under control, but the home was completely destroyed.

When the flames subsided, forensic officers made the grim discovery of the charred remains of a man, still chained to a post inside the burnt-out structure. The victim is believed to have been around 60 years old.

The operation involved municipal fire trucks, rescue volunteers, civil defence personnel, local police patrols, investigators from Sai Yok Police Station, and an on-duty doctor from Sai Yok Hospital. The Mayor of Nam Tok Sai Yok Noi Municipality personally oversaw the emergency response.

Forensic teams from Kanchanaburi province are conducting a detailed examination to determine the cause of the fire and the circumstances that led to the man being chained inside. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
