  • This would never have happened had Spain not left the EU. The EU has strict regulations and does not tolerate this kind of nonsense.

Usual rubbish from you.   Property (Land and Housing): These laws—like ownership, zoning, and tenancy—are entirely under national jurisdiction. The EU has no authority over how member states

No they haven't. It was a weak attempt by him to have a dig at the EU.....which sorely misfired as the EU has no say over these matter anyway

A classic example of why you should never buy into a market unless it is 100% secure and politically stable.

For Thailand's expat Brits, buy in the UK, rent the UK property out and use that rental income to rent in Thailand.

I assume you've never been a landlord in Britain.

The tenants are generally socially unacceptable and unmanageable and if you go to court the judges blame you if the tenant cut his hand on the sledgehammer as he hacked up your living room in a drug fuelled rage.

Had three properties since early 2000s, no problems beyond the odd maintenance issues, blocked drains etc......one flooded bathroom

You can't blame the Spanish government for trying to reduce corruption. The real culprits have long gone.

You can if it was government corruption even if they have 'long gone' = retired due to old age.

I lost money on property in Spain it happens you have to move on.

At least the Catalan nationalists are held in check currently.

If they're let loose property prices will really go down the toilet, as the Catalans are the most vile nationalist foreigner hating people in Europe today.

Anyone who's had the misfortune to buy property in Spain has my condolences.

Yeah, I've heard some real horror stories over the years, often due to local government corruption and weird community land ownership rules where land can be 'taken' in some way - but I never did consider moving to Spain so didn't bother looking into it in too much detail.

No, Spain has not left the EU. Spain is a member of the European Union, and has been since 1986.

Troll post removed.

Baseless generalisation. It depends on the foreigners' behaviour, and on the level of tourist saturation in particular locations.

Plenty of illegal migrants will be happy to trash you UK home if you want.

What happened to the novel concept of buying a house to actually live in it and not for the idea of selling  for profit?

It's called Market. Oversupply = lower prices.

Hmmmm....... sound economic theory, but it doesn't seem to apply in Thailand.

If they can't sell a property for 1.5m baht this year, they will advertise it at 1.7m next year..........
