Was everything fully frozen? I only ask as I sometimes like to divide into smaller portions which can be very difficult when frozen (not really an issue with the sausages, more so the bacon). Was the mince in 1kg frozen blocks?

It was all frozen although they had some sausages and bacon that had only just been put in the freezer and weren't fully frozen if I preferred, but generally expect it all to be frozen.

My mince came in 1kg portions, but I think they do smaller 500g ones if you prefer.

I took 1kg of bacon which came in one packet, but inside were three separate individual packeted portions, so I took one out to defrost and left the rest in the freezer (three separate sealed bags inside one bigger bag, so assume 330grams or so per portion). I haven't opened the portion yet but it feels like 6-7 slices in there.

Sausages came in 500g packets which is five big sausages or ten thin sausages.

1kg of ribeye was frozen in individual 250g-ish steaks.

The picture below is one of the smaller bags of bacon that I took out of the big bag. So all nicely portioned. I have bought from a different supplier before and 1kg of bacon came all frozen in one big portion which as you say is a nightmare as you have to defrost it all in one go. This is much better in that respect.

And here you can see the three separately wrapped packets inside the big packet.

Perfect. Thank you for taking the time to clarify. Enjoy your goodies over the coming days/weeks.

When you see all those elderly grumpy looking bald, tatooed falangs eating so badly all over the place juste because it's cheap, one could consider that they do not want to live on very long.

Well, I went. Hard to find, had to call her to pop her head out and it just a tiny little office (with a factory behind it). But they have lists of all the foods and prices, tell them what you want and the girl disappears in the factory and comes back with your stuff. She did say next time just call them and they'll bring it to my house.

Really lovely lady, we had a good chat, her English husband who started it sadly died a few years ago but she carried it on which explains why the website is from a time warp. But genuinely lovely lady.

I got 2kg of minced beef. 2kg of Cumberland sausages - a mixture of thin ones and thick ones. 1kg back bacon. 3 steak & ale pies, 1kg of Thai ribeye (they have run out of Australian but she said it is decent so thought I would try). Total price 2,365 baht which seems incredibly reasonable.

I'm trying a pie tonight and will give the bacon a go in the morning and report back.

Pie report:

Pretty good. Nice pastry, very meaty. Not as luscious as a Tinnies chunky steak pie - they have a much richer and thicker gravy - but it is less than half the price (75 baht I think, verses 175 for a Tinnies). I did make gravy to go with it and think it might be a little dry without, but very good quality meat, pretty packed filling. A good pie.

Kids liked them too. I would definitely be happy to order again. And for the value they are superb.

Tomorrow I'll break out the bacon. You may have to wait for a sausage report as I don't do huge breakfasts, just a bacon butty will do me fine. Sausages will probably wait till next time I bust the barbecue out.

Thanks to @Martinpeter for the tip, and so close to my home! For anyone else considering I would say DO NOT go there in person, there is no point, there's nothing to see, you can't browse. It is not a shop, just a very small office but all the products are behind them in their factory (you can literally hear band saws going and other meaty noises). I think they churn out a lot of wholesale product for pubs and restaurants.

The only plus side of going there is you get to know exactly what is in stock as they'll give you a current list, and you get to take it home with you immediately and they are very nice people. I would say look at the website and then call or email them, they'll give you the current selection and they'll deliver it pretty much straight away if you are in Bangkok. The stock on the website has not been updated since 2017 as I think that is the year her husband died, poor lady, so don't rely on what's available or the prices. Call or email.

Edit: I forgot to take a picture of the finished pie after it came out of the oven, that would have helped, soz.

Glad you went - prices for pies are good

i going again next month stock up

i have been going there for over 10 years

It's the reason why these guys are so grumpy.

POOR DIET

Stapping away from the subject, I stopped consuming those products as soon as I have found out what is in them,

and with my health situation, i simply can't allow myself to indulge.

But it is their life to live the way they choose. Not yours to try to change them. If they are happy enough, then leave them alone and live your own life your way.

Bacon report: excellent. Thick cut, no water (some bacon you get that white goo coming out during cooking when they've added water to it - none of that here), very tasty.

For me the gold standard in Thailand was alway Sloanes back bacon as that is incredibly good. But that works out at 850 baht a kg, and this is 300-320 baht (I can't remember exactly) and I would say it is 95% as good. It is a bit thicker than Sloanes, but Sloanes you get that little fatty belly part at the end of the rasher which is so flavourful, whereas these were mostly the medallion.

But excellent, definitely recommended.

I'm reasonably happy with Manston Epicure Pork Sausage Breakfast Links. Buy mine from Foodland in Jomtien.

They're not "great" by any means.  But compared to every other local brand I've tried, these are the best of a very mediocre selection.

Yesterday's brekkie at my gaff. :coffee1:

EDIT: Tomato missing because the missus nicked the last one in the fridge for her som-tam the night before.

Looks great to me, Be even better with a piece of black pud and a piece of white pud.

Thank you.

Have some flavouring mixes left over from the order I got last year from a company called Weschenfelder in the UK.

Unfortunately they don't ship their stuff overseas. I was lucky that a friend was going to the UK and he ordered the stuff and carried it back for me.

If you're in Bangkok, near Chinatown, I recommend this spice shop in the alley across the street from Wat Mangkon MRT:

Nguan Soon

https://www.nguansoon.com/

I stop in to refill my list every time I'm on my monthly Bangkok visa runs from China.

I make cumberlands, generic breakfast sausage, and Italian.  I quit bothering with the casings because I don't store them for long.

believe me!

Cooked some of their cumberlands today. Absolutely excellent.

I get mine from Yorkshire Bacon in Hua Hin. Great sausages and bacon made by a professional butcher.
https://www.yorkshirebacon.com/

I have just started 2kg of home made honey  and mustard bacon.

It should be ready in 2 to 3 weeks.

Makro had 2 kg of thin sliced TGM bacon for 900 thb last week/

My problem is that at 81, I use a cleaver to cut the bacon, so it will be thick cut bacon, hopefully without any fresh sliced fingers or thumbs in it.

The best sausage i find is sausage king They are sold all over the country i get mine from Tops but mostly Villa stock them .Not tried his other produce but cracking sausages

What are those strips next to the beans that look like badly washed field dressings?

I have tried various Pork sausages here over the years, but I have never found one that floats my boat. Any suggestions? To shop in Pattaya or online. I used to like the Pork and Leek Sausages from Tesco 30 years ago.

Thanks for your (hopefully) many fine suggestions.

Try Maggie May's - They serve excellent food - They also will sell meat right out of their stock for you to take home for cooking later.

Not sure if Tony still owns the place.

+1

I have shopped there for years and will stock up on my bi-annual trips to the area.

Not sure if they deliver to Pattaya, but when I ordered in Chiang Mai the service was great. You can also make your own

it’s easy.
