In a Sunday interview on NBC's "Meet the Press," Vice President JD Vance revealed that Russia has "significant concessions" in ongoing discussions aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. Despite these advancements, he highlighted that additional sanctions could still be applied to maintain pressure on the Kremlin for a peaceful resolution.

Vance explained that Russia has shown flexibility regarding core demands, acknowledging Ukraine's territorial integrity and stepping back from the plan to install a puppet government in Kyiv. Although Russia hasn’t fully acquiesced, these discussions mark a notable shift in the nearly four-year conflict, with further diplomatic engagement ongoing.

While Vance is optimistic, the lack of a scheduled meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy raises questions about Russia's commitment to peace. Vance noted that sanctions remain an option, as decisions will be made based on what can effectively influence Russia's stance.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking separately, defended Putin’s approach and dismissed claims that Russia is manipulating President Trump. While criticising European leaders for impeding progress towards a resolution, he asserted that both nations desire peace.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy voiced scepticism, pointing out Russia's reluctance to commit to ending the war. He emphasised the importance of unity between America and Europe to pressure Russia to reduce its aggression, hinting at the collaborative effort needed to achieve peace.

As NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte discussed potential security guarantees for Ukraine with Zelenskyy, Vance confirmed Trump's stance that no US troops would be stationed on Ukrainian soil. However, he reiterated America's continued support in ensuring Ukraine's security.

Lavrov, dismissing claims of invasion, framed Russia’s actions as a protective measure. He maintained that Russia’s military operations aim to defend Russian-identifying populations in Ukraine, while Zelenskyy remains firm against surrendering any Ukrainian territory, reported ABC News.

This development highlights ongoing complex negotiations, with a mix of diplomacy and strategy shaping the future of Ukrainian-Russian relations. The acknowledgement of concessions offers a glimmer of hope, yet the full resolution remains uncertain, depending on sustained international pressure and further dialogue.

Yes it's horrifying that he's the one in waiting to replace the rapidly declining physically and mentally frail Mr. Trump.

Could anyone be even worse than Trump?

Sure.

Didn't bother to read the rest of the promotional story after I read this snippet, which totally contradicts earlier information from all sides about the discussions.
