On the night of September 2, a fire broke out at the Proton-PM plant in the Russian city of Perm, according to Exilenova+.

The sky above the plant was covered in thick black smoke, according to eyewitnesses. Published photos show a large column of smoke rising above the plant building and fence.

The cause of the fire has not yet been reported.

Ukrainian drone crews have delivered a devastating blow against Russian positions east of Kupiansk, systematically destroying 114 frontline shelters in a concentrated aerial assault.

Ukrainian drones struck the Rosneft-Kubannefteprodukt oil depot in Adler overnight on September 4. The anti-drone nets covering the facility proved ineffective, according to Radio Svoboda.

Released satellite imagery confirms that 5 to 6 of the 10 fuel tanks at the facility were completely destroyed in the attack and the subsequent fire.

At the time of the strike, attempts had been made to protect the tanks from aerial attacks.

Donald Trump has appeared to back the idea of Ukraine producing Patriot air-defence missiles under US licence, sharing a Washington Post proposal that argues it could help ease Kyiv’s critical interceptor shortage. The move comes as Washington faces competing demands to arm Ukraine, replenish its own stocks and meet other military needs.

Trump revives an idea he backed — but nothing has moved

The proposal, by Marc Thiessen, argues that licensing Patriot production could benefit Ukraine, US allies and America itself. Trump had already expressed willingness to let Ukraine manufacture Patriots at the NATO summit in Ankara in July, but there has been no practical progress since then.

The major obstacle is highly sensitive American technology. Washington fears advanced Patriot capabilities could fall into Russian hands if production secrets are transferred to Ukraine.

A cheaper missile could unlock the deal

Thiessen argues Ukraine does not necessarily need to manufacture the newest PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement interceptor. Instead, the US could consider joint production of less advanced systems.

The proposal lands amid growing pressure in Washington for action. Congressman Mike Turner has urged Trump and the Pentagon to accelerate efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s air defences.

Ukraine is preparing to sign contracts for the supply of around 1,000 missiles for Patriot air defense systems, with the support of its partners and funded by an EU loan. This was announced by Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara.

The Defense Minister points out that the ordered missiles would take some time to arrive. He urgently calls on Ukraine's partners to supply interceptor missiles from their existing stocks before winter sets in. In return, these could be replenished with modernized missiles from future contracts with Ukraine.

Ukraine reveals details of record drone attack on two Russian industrial giants

Ukrainian drones reached facilities that Moscow viewed as deep rear. The Special Operations Forces (SOF) reported the largest strike on Russian industry since the start of the war: drones travelled more than 3,000 km and hit two major Russian gas processing plants in Yamal, according to theSpecial Operations Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

A massive shift is happening inside the Russian information space. Military bloggers have served as crucial cheerleaders for the Kremlin since the invasion began, but they are now turning on their own military leaders.

According to the Institute for the Study of War, these influential voices are openly criticizing how commanders report battlefield events. They point specifically to the Lyman area in the Donetsk region.

Ukrainian troops are actively pushing back in that sector. Russian units have had to abandon several positions, and the loyalist bloggers are finally admitting it.

A culture of lies

These online commentators are no longer just reporting on troop movements. They are directly challenging the official updates provided by top generals.

One Russian commentator went so far as to describe the constant stream of positive reports as part of a broader “culture of lies”, the ISW noted accoridng to O2.

This false optimism creates severe problems on the ground. When commanders draw up plans based on fake maps and imaginary victories, the soldiers on the front lines pay the ultimate price.

Contradicting the president

The internal revolt creates a major headache for Vladimir Putin. The Russian leader recently claimed that operations in the Donbas were going perfectly to plan.

He told the public that the Ukrainian army was struggling and losing ground, according to a report by TSN. But the reality in the trenches quickly exposed those claims.

For example, Putin recently declared that Russian forces controlled Sviatohirsk. Shortly after that speech, Ukrainian troops demonstrated full control over the exact same city.

Hiding the truth

Russian audiences are used to ignoring foreign reports. However, it is much harder to dismiss harsh criticism when it comes from their own pro-war bloggers.

The ISW points out that these commentators are fed up with overly optimistic maps. They know the official story does not match the muddy reality of the conflict.

Because open-source evidence remains limited, the exact frontline in the Lyman direction is still murky. Analysts suggest that the scale of the Ukrainian push might actually be underestimated.
