Trump Attempting to End Cashless Bail

Featured Replies

Please note:  The rules regarding bail for non-Federal offenses are set by state or local law.  These laws cannot be overridden automatically by a Presidential executive order.  Only a small number of states in the U.S. have forbidden or limited cash bail, but they include states with large populations such as California, New York, Illinois and New Jersey,

From NBC News:

Trump signs executive orders aimed at ending cashless bail in D.C. and across the country

President Donald Trump signed executive orders Monday aimed at eliminating cashless bail for suspects arrested in Washington, D.C., and in other jurisdictions around the country with similar policies, according to fact sheets describing the executive orders the White House provided to NBC News.

The executive order on D.C. directs the administration to take certain actions if the city does not change its cashless bail policy, including "federal funding decisions, services, or approvals," according to the fact sheet.

“Cashless Bail” Is a Government-Backed Crime Spree

President Donald J. Trump’s aggressive crackdown to end the failed experiment known as “cashless bail” aims to get violent criminals off our streets — starting in Washington, D.C., where dangerous predators are being set free to offend again and again.

The Radical Left’s fantasy of so-called “cashless bail” has turned the streets of America’s cities into hunting grounds for repeat criminals who mock our justice system by committing crime after crime without consequence.

The article then gives examples of individuals released from detention without bail who then went on to commit crimes, including serious felonies.

Incidents such as those described in the article below are part of the reason for outrage over cashless bail:
