2 Children Dead, 17 Hurt in Mass Shooting at Minneapolis Church

A mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis tragically claimed the lives of an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old. A gunman opened fire through the church windows, injuring 17 others, including 14 children aged 6 to 15 and three parishioners in their 80s. The shooter, identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The violent attack occurred during a Mass marking the first week of school. Witnesses reported dozens of rounds fired by Westman, who was armed with multiple weapons. Recently, the shooter legally purchased the firearms, and the scene also revealed a potential smoke bomb.

Westminster, a young student, described how shots shattered the stained glass window beside him, forcing him and his classmates to hide under pews. Amidst the chaos, school staff swiftly evacuated students to safety. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara condemned the act as a "deliberate attack on innocent children."

The suspect's background has drawn significant attention. Originally born Robert Westman, Robin had a legal name change in 2020 to reflect her gender identity. This detail prompted officials to advise against using the incident to incite hate towards the trans community. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey emphasised the need to focus on the affected children and their grieving families.

A driver's license photo obtained by ABC News shows Robin Westman, identified as the suspect in the Aug. 27, 2025 attack in Minneapolis.

Condolences have poured in nationwide. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz expressed his state's heartbreak over the tragedy, while President Donald Trump and former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden all issued public statements mourning the loss and urging action against gun violence. Trump has ordered flags at half-staff until Sunday, reported ABC News.

The FBI is treating the shooting as domestic terrorism and a potential hate crime against Catholics but has yet to identify a definitive motive. Investigations include the suspect's social media activity, particularly a now-removed video posted online. This video reportedly featured troubling imagery and notes, hinting at possible premeditation.

Local police, with assistance from federal agencies, continue to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy. Families, community members, and law enforcement remain vigilant, seeking answers and a path forward in the wake of this devastating event.

The city of Minneapolis must deal with the fallout, working to support the impacted families and prevent such violence from happening again.

Good excuse for the government to restrict gun ownership even more. Every year America is becoming more of a police state, shout out to the  Patriot Act.

There are also millions of  Americans who legally own guns, that use them for hunting, target shooting and self defense, and who have saved lives with these weapons. Of course everybody should not own weapons, as there are quite a few mentally ill individuals that do these types of crimes, both in America and more and more here. The guns are and will never be the problem. Mental illness is, and just in this country alone, there are many who kill, daily, using guns, machetes, knives, and other weapons.

That's your opinion, and is wrong. Hunting has always been a legitimate hobby where certain animals species are kept within the carrying capacity of the land they inhabit. Even more now with the destruction of their habitats for man's profit, where more animals are competing for less food. And you would not be where you are now, or possibly still alive, if it wasn't for the military. If the military can own guns, along with the police forces, it's also a right for any legitimate gun owner to own them.

I sold guns for years, and none were ever used in this sort of insanity. We did checks, but mental illnesses aren't things that can easily be checked unless a psychiatrist is involved. Most people that buy guns legally are legitimate owners. Many of the crimes are illegal guns or guns taken from legitimate owners by mentally ill people who have their own sick agendas.

Is OAN/Fox/RT covering this story?   If so, what are they saying, that it was the kids' fault?

Sick in the head is correct and describes the murderer precisely. Interestingly some news is saying gunman. Correct. Other news is saying shooter and not mentioning the gender identifaction aspect. A male who thought he was female and obviously mentally ill.

why is it that if someone wants to undergo transition surgery, they have to meet with a psychiatrist? Is it because that medical speciality treats ingrown toenails or hemorrhoids?

Caitlyn Jenner used to be Bruce Jenner, a gold medal winner decathlete. Most who are into sports knew about him.

Mental illness not exclusive to US. Japan overall gun deaths is 0.01 per 100,000 people compare to USA 13.7 per 100,000. It is the gun, stupid and the Republicans are complicit in allowing too much leeway on gun laws.

Just another day in the mass shooting capital of planet earth. I hear some people continually talking about America being number one, well it is number one when it comes to mass shootings. America is a nation that absolutely adores its guns, and seems to adore in equal measure it's violence.

Chances are that assessment will bring all kinds of bizarre strange and convoluted criticism from the MAGA folks, who just cannot seem to handle critiques of the US these days, with their increasingly softer skin and snowflake culture.
