Authorities have arrested a 25-year-old Myanmar national in connection with the theft of thousands of credit card details worldwide, which he reportedly used to purchase goods for resale in his home country.

Police from the Immigration Bureau, under the direction of Pol Maj-Gen Phanumart Boonyalak, executed a raid on an apartment on Chan Road, Thung Wat Don, Sathorn district, Bangkok, on 27 August. The suspect, identified as Mr Khant Soe, was detained along with evidence including an iPhone, an iPad and receipts from purchases made using stolen credit card information.

Investigations revealed that over 1,000 Thai credit card accounts and thousands of foreign accounts may have been compromised, spanning countries including the United States, China, Taiwan, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, India and others.

Authorities said the suspect had been using the stolen data to order products such as iPhone 15 devices via the “MacroPro” app, without the knowledge of the cardholders. The goods were subsequently shipped to Myanmar for resale, with payments channelled into the suspect’s Myanmar bank account.

Mr Khant Soe admitted to the scheme, claiming he had been carrying out the fraud for nearly a year and had completed over 200 transactions using stolen credit card details.

He has been charged under Section 269/6 of the Thai Criminal Code for possession and use of electronic cards without authorisation, which is an offence likely to cause loss or harm to others. The suspect and seized items have been handed over to Yan Nawa Police Station for prosecution.

Thai authorities are also coordinating with the Thai Bankers’ Association and other relevant agencies to trace and apprehend additional accomplices involved in the scheme.
