Yep. Those who have the numbers. If it wasn't for the Junta senators and the Thaksin deal Pita would have been the PM. The party that won the most seats. Thaksin was PM because the PTP had the numbers. Yingluk was PM because again PTP had the numbers. Prayut was PM due to the coup and a corrupt election. Anutin will get the job because the PTP/military elite relationship seems to have come to an end BJP, PTP and the military-elites will not vote for a PP candidate.

We have to assume that with a new constitution the PP may win even bigger. Hopefully the Constutional Court's powers will be curtailed so as to limit its chances of interfering in the electoral results.

Antin is a racist as swipe he hates foreigners and will do everything he can to see us Farangs gone,, I personally think that Mr Peta, the guy that was voted into the job buy 90% of the Thai people should be given the job. Not these rich dickwades with billions of dollars and the need for more money in this country

All the vultures gather …and the chief vulture has now stake his claim …..

Another death knell coming to Shinawatras .. Thaksin‘s criminal case next

People’s party finally get to form the government, no?
isn’t this what the Thaksin haters clamouring for?

I really can’t imagine what Anutin would do to the Foreigners. He has been very open in the past about his views of us. He says he wants to make the country better, but hopefully that includes the foreigners who live here as well. I’d rather not take the chance.

Can't see him being worse than the Shins ......

This year alone, cannabis banned (maybe), Bank accounts closed, SIMs chased, Ed VISAs cancelled, multi non Os gone, driving license problems, buying new car problem ..... all down to the Shins.

Even Prayut was better for us than the government that's just fallen.

Well, if he is the new leader get ready for a rough ride if you are a Farang.

Any delays in forming a new government could lead to a soft military takeover (the Camouflage Party).

Gen. Boonsin, with hero status (called "the People's General"), is being groomed for a leadership role.

Please! No! Not him!

Phuuuuuuu. . . . .  Here we go again.

"Anutin clarified questions about the People's Party’s official support and the tallying of votes. He emphasised practical success over numerical precision, confident that he could secure sufficient support to form a government."

Cause for concern, especially if this vote tallying procedure is retained for use in general elections.

No, this changed meanwhile. Under the constitution written by the junta, between 2019 to 2024 appointed by the full National Assembly, including the Senate, the prime minister is currently appointed by the House of Representatives only.

Yes, you are correct.  I was referring to the last election when Pita never had a chance to become PM because the senate did vote.  Hopefully in the next election things will be better and representatives elected by the people get to select the PM.

the look on that face...  he thinks it's a lock

There is only one thing important.

NEW VOTES!

PS Then we can hope the PPP will have 50 %

Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, boldly declared his readiness to become Thailand’s Prime Minister

well I never!

If he is successful, will all the Government construction contracts be diverted from Ital-Thai to Sino-Thai?

I wish him luck, if only because he is more likely than anyone else not to go for a re-criminalisation of cannabis.

A few hundred anti-PheuThai supporters gathered at Victory Monument Sunday afternoon. They appear to be Anutin and concervative supporters given this little gem burried in the Bangkok Post article.. I hope they got soaked with rain.

Beyond opposing Pheu Thai’s role, Ruam Palang Phaen Din also insisted that the next government must not amend constitutional provisions relating to national unity and the constitutional monarchy.

The group further demanded [among others] the rejection of a bill to extend property leases for foreigners from 30 to 99 years,

You might need the cannabis to dull the pain headed to foreign residents in Thailand if he does. We shouldn't forget in 2020 he proposed that all foreigners should be kicked out of the country, and currently advocates for immigration reform.

If he is PM, can weed go back to the way it was?

I hope the PP win big but I think we should be cautious.

Over the last year they have lost badly in the local council and mayor elections.

This shows the power of local business families still hold sway with a large part of the electorate.

These families are naturally conservative and will usually not side with PP.

Secondly, under the current surge of nationalism ( the Nida poll showed a businessman or soldier were the most popular professions for the next PM among the voters), PP may lose votes, being seen as anti- military by some voters.

Thirdly, Keng, the current leader, doesn't possess the charisma of Pita or Thanathorn.

I can't see him attracting huge crowds but I hope I'm wrong!

I sure he is.  Might even be the best person for the job.

Won't  happen. They are the  biggest  threat to the military's grip on power.
