Ex-NYC Mayor Giuliani Hurt in Crash After Helping at Scene

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, aged 81, was injured in a car accident on Saturday evening in Manchester, New Hampshire. Giuliani was a passenger in a Ford Bronco when it was rear-ended, leaving him with a fractured thoracic vertebra, lacerations, and contusions. His security guard, Michael Ragusa, confirmed the details, stating the injuries included damage to Giuliani's left arm and lower leg.

Known as "America's Mayor" for leading New York City through the 9/11 attacks, Giuliani went on to advise and serve as the personal lawyer for US president Donald Trump.

Despite their professional split, Giuliani remains a prominent figure. All individuals involved in the collision were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the crash is currently under investigation by local police.

Giuliani's involvement in the incident reportedly began when he stopped to assist an alleged victim of domestic violence. According to Ragusa, Giuliani rendered aid and contacted emergency services before the accident occurred. New Hampshire police, investigating the separate domestic violence report, witnessed the aftermath on the opposite side of the road, where both vehicles were heavily damaged after veering into the median.

The police have identified the driver who allegedly struck Giuliani's vehicle. Although no charges have been filed yet, the investigation remains ongoing. Giuliani’s legacy as the mayor of New York City began in 1993, and he played a significant role during the 11 September 2001 attacks, reported the BBC.

His political trajectory included an unsuccessful run for US president in 2008, followed by advisory roles during Trump's 2016 campaign and subsequent legal representation.

Giuliani became involved in controversy after the 2020 election, advocating unsubstantiated claims of election fraud. Earlier this year, he tentatively settled with former election workers who secured $148 million (4.8 billion Thai baht) in damages following a defamation lawsuit against him.

Amidst recent challenges, including legal battles and public scrutiny, Giuliani's political and legal career has been tumultuous. The car accident adds a fresh twist in his ongoing public narrative. Police in New Hampshire continue to investigate the circumstances leading to Saturday’s crash, while all parties aim for swift recovery without serious consequences.
