A British woman has been fatally stabbed in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in what police suspect was a violent fallout from a love triangle. Jessica Cariad Hopkins, 34, originally from Harpenden, Hertfordshire, was found with multiple stab wounds late on Friday night in the capital’s Chamkarmon district.

Local authorities arrested 33-year-old Congolese national Kidikila Nganda Glodie less than 24 hours after the attack. She was detained at a salon in Daun Penh, roughly 1.5 miles from the scene. Footage shared by Cambodian media showed Glodie being led away in handcuffs.

Police commissioner Chuon Narin confirmed that Hopkins was discovered at 11:40pm on 29 August, lying in a pool of blood in a public park. Early investigations suggest the motive may be linked to romantic jealousy, though officials have yet to release full details.

Hopkins had reportedly been living in Siem Reap and was staying temporarily in Phnom Penh’s Chroy Changvar district. Her social media presence indicated a settled life in Cambodia, though friends say she had recently voiced concerns about personal tensions.

Two female witnesses, who claimed to have seen the stabbing, were initially reprimanded by a senior officer for speaking to the press. They later cooperated with police and were released after questioning.

The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office stated: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Cambodia and are in contact with the local authorities.”

The case has sparked concern among expatriates and locals alike, with many calling for greater protections and transparency in handling violent crimes involving foreigners. Cambodian police say the investigation is ongoing and further details will be released in due course.

Hopkins’ death has left a community in mourning and raised troubling questions about the circumstances that led to such a brutal end.
