Need To Work In Thailand

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

Sa wat dee krup!

I have a Thai wife and I am looking at settling in Thailand. I am a well qualified IT professional from India and am looking for jobs in Thailand but don't seem to get many responses???

Is there a special provision for work permit/work visa rules if I am married to a Thai national.I also have a son who is 7 months old and he also has been registered as a Thai citizen.

Looking forward to your advice.

Thanks & Regards,

Lokesh

I do not know about special provisions for a spouse of a Thai but when I worked in IT in Thailand I had no problem getting a WP.

Once you have a position you apply for the WP (or the company will really) - show them your qualifications (I put in my degree's ans other IT course's I had been on) plus my CV - I think it might help if you have big name company's on there but I and sure this is not a requirement.

I know family might be the over-riding consideration for you but given some of the salary's I have seen in Thailand would Singapore not be a beter option - certainly more openings?

I am now in Singapore and could probably have had the job moved but chose to try something different for my second stint in the region.

Hi Prakanong,

Thanks for the reply.

I am just waiting for an opportunity to work in Thailand and that guarantees me a salary of 40000 baht (which I would be happy with :o ) as per the rules of employing an expat.I love Thailand and would like to be close to my wife and son and thats the reason I am looking at a job there and was thinking maybe there would be some relaxations if I am married to a Thai and have a child registered as Thai citizen.

By the way how come u call yourself "Prakanong" ..were you staying in that area? Just curious ..

Cheers!

I think you should get 40k no problem if you are happy with that. Your wife and son would have no problem with visa's for Singapore though if you got a job here.

Have you thought about setting up a consultancy yourself? That is what I did but had contacts all set up who knew me beforehand. I do not know what it would be like today nearly 9 years later with all the changes though.

As for Prakanong - well I lived slightly further out but did not want tocall myself "Onnut" ;-)))

Pre-Skytrain days so the communte to work could take ages just going to Sukhumvit or Rama 4.

Hi Prakanong,

I am definitely looking at consultancy but would like to establish my roots so I can be prepared for it when i eventually start on the consultancy role.

Sorry to be bothering you, but please do let me know if you have some good job consultants or friends in the IT sector who would further my cause in searching for a job in Thailand. If possible please do give me your e-mail id and I would send across my resume for your thoughts on my chances in Thailand.I know I am being hel_l bent on Thailand because somehow this country makes me feel comfortable and I am a lot more happier when I am there.

True "Onnut" would have sounded a bit weird.

Best Regards,

Lokesh

I will PM you an email address but I do not know anybody in Thailand working in IT any more - I do get asked this often ;-))

Our regional IT is based in Singapore and we only have first line tech support in PC and networks over there that I know of.

Have you tried www.jobserve.com - its UK based (and Oz) but every so often Thai jobs show up - mainly in banking, subscriber management / billing systems and SAP if memory serves me correctly.

SAP courses were cheaper in Thailand compared to the UK I can remember and that is an option I looked at years ago - if I was going that way now though i would do my MSc in ERP systems run by an Oz Uni here is Singapore which also gets you SAP Certified - a bargain at circa 20K sing if you ask me given the demand here.

Hi Prakanong,

Thanks again ..I do understand that you would be getting a lot of posts asking for contacts or jobs ...

Its just that I am so desperate to settle down in Thailand that I am ready to quit my current organization that sends me to the US of A on a minimum of 6 trips per year for Requirements Gathering :o

Cheers!

Lokesh
