As announced in the Royal Gazette, from March 4, 2026, motor enthusiasts can bypass lengthy queues and embrace a digital route to renewing their licences. The caretaker Transport Deputy Minister, Surapong Piyachote, highlighted that this move streamlines processes and eliminates unnecessary trips to transport offices. "Healthy drivers will see no changes in their ability to drive," he assured, emphasising that the new provision focusses on convenience for those under the age threshold. Licences can be renewed electronically without the need to appear in person, easing the stress on both drivers and administrative staff. However, drivers over 55 or those whose licences have expired for more than a year won't have the same digital luxury, reported the Bangkok Post. They’ll need to visit transport offices for essential tests, such as eyesight and reaction time assessments. This is to maintain safety standards and ensure that all drivers meet the necessary requirements. Renewal applicants eligible for the online service can submit requests via the Department of Land Transport's website, making the process straightforward and efficient. With these changes set to roll out in just a few years, Thailand's Transport Ministry is clearly steering into the future, streamlining operations and embracing the digital age.
