This sovereign nation for decades wasn't able to tidy up their geopolitical matters. Instead for decades toremented russian language minorities,  for decades allowed the country to be run by criminals, thieves, cowards and finally comedian. For decades kept this rotten, corrupted and shady system alive. For decades was ignoring or trying to hide their awful, vile and embarrassing history. For decades cultivated nazi ideology and cherished genocidals like bandera, shukhevytch and that sort of beasts. 

What you offer here is a typical historical relativism and binary thinking. Ukraine for years was trying to build their country on lies, crimes, corruption ad wrongdoing. Events in 2014 was a nail in their coffin.
