Trump Shrugs Off Nobel Snub, Says Winner Dedicated Prize to Him

President Donald Trump reacted calmly Friday after being passed over for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, instead congratulating Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado — who, he said, dedicated the award partly to him.

“The person who actually got the Nobel Prize called today,” Trump told reporters. “She said, ‘I’m accepting this in honor of you, because you really deserved it.’ A really nice thing to do.” With a grin, he added, “I didn’t say, ‘Then give it to me, though.’ I think she might have.”

Machado, a fierce opponent of Venezuela’s authoritarian President Nicolás Maduro, reportedly credited Trump for his “unwavering support” of Venezuela’s democracy movement. Her recognition aligns with Trump’s long-standing hardline stance on the Maduro regime — one that Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised as “resolute and principled.”

The Nobel Committee’s choice continues a long-running political divide over the prestigious award. Three sitting U.S. presidents have won the Nobel Peace Prize — Theodore Roosevelt (1906), Woodrow Wilson (1919), and Barack Obama (2009). Former President Jimmy Carter received it in 2002, and ex–Vice President Al Gore in 2007.

Trump, who has brokered multiple international deals including recent Middle East ceasefires, was nominated several times during his presidency but has never won.

Key Takeaways:

  • Trump congratulated María Corina Machado for her Nobel win, saying she dedicated it to him.

  • Machado praised Trump’s role in supporting Venezuela’s fight for democracy.

  • Trump joins past presidents nominated but not chosen for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Barack certainly didn't deserve it, either, a war president, as was Teddy Roosevelt.

More winz for the Trump card.

He knew all along he deserved it.

She had to say it or else get a smack down, eventually.

He wasn't even able to mention her Name. Poor and sad.

So sad...

Just to remind.

María Corina Machado

Talk about nitpicking, any minute detail at all, to discredit Trump. There was no need to mention her name as everyone knew who won.

Can you comprehend the number of people around the world with whom Trump interacts daily? He didn't remember her name, but she's hardly a major player on the world stage.

  • Deadline: January 31st at 12 midnight CET.
  • Subsequent Additions: Committee members can add their own nominations at the first meeting after the deadline.
  • Late Nominations: Nominations received after the deadline are typically considered for the next year's prize.

Oops, seems you got up on the wrong side of the bed.

His choice of words shows absolute disrespect and arrogance. Begging - almost demanding several times that he should become this honour and he can't even say a "Thank you Mrs. María Corina Machado "?

No matter what side of the bed I exit, I find this constant nitpicking annoying, and I'm in a good mood today, after a very good sleep LOL

He did thank her. He didn't have to use her name in an informal comment, as it was implied, and of course, he most likely didn't know or remember it, as it is not that important. Only nitpickers pick up on these minutiae. The rest of the world is focused on Middle East peace deals.

Seemed to miss that part.

If so, I apologize.

If not - you are lying.

Ah, a downvote only after 3 days.

So you or a buddy if yours couldn‘t find the „thanks“ from Trump to Maria Corina Machado.

Poor, no facts as usual from your side.
But youre telling the „truth“ for sure - you are a laugh.

Sad - VERY SAD. Only a sad looser…
