McEWEN, TENN. — A Tennessee town is reeling after a massive explosion ripped through a military explosives plant, killing everyone inside and leaving behind only twisted metal and smoke.

The Accurate Energetic Systems facility — supplier of munitions to the U.S. Army and Navy — was obliterated Friday in a blast so powerful it shook homes miles away. By Saturday, officials confirmed the grim truth: there were no survivors.

Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis fought back tears as he told reporters, “We’ve recovered no survivors… we’re dealing with remains.” Around 300 responders are combing through the wreckage, moving cautiously amid unstable explosive debris. A helicopter hovers nearby on standby in case another detonation hits.

The plant, located in a wooded area 60 miles southwest of Nashville, was reduced to a charred crater. Investigators from the ATF and state bomb units are trying to make the site safe before searching for evidence of foul play — a process officials say could take weeks.

Locals described the blast as an earthquake. “I thought the house had collapsed with me inside it,” said Gentry Stover, who lives nearby. “Then I realized it had to be Accurate — it was like a bomb went off.”

The company, which has held millions in military contracts, issued a short statement offering “thoughts and prayers” for victims’ families.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee urged residents to pray for the dead and for the community now engulfed in shock and grief.

Key Takeaways:

  • Blast at U.S. explosives plant kills all workers, no survivors found.

  • Site remains volatile; investigators probing possible foul play.

  • Explosion felt for miles, locals describe “earthquake-like” impact.
