Day 1. Pattaya to Kanchanaburi Via the start of Death Railway.

Ray and I left Pattaya this morning at 8am in weird weather, very misty and yet hot. As you may have noticed my bike is now a 142cc Bike after having a big bore kit installed along with other work giving it a lot more power ready for the mountains.

There was only one viewpoint we stopped to see, the start point of The Death Railway, here.

Then onto our usual stop, Smiley Frog.

Good to see you back on the road Chris.

Great pics to start off the tour. I took the liberty of blowing up one.

Are you gonna follow the tracks all the way north Chris?

I was thinking that, just a big bore kit ,new head? will ask my local shop.

A few years ago, I stumbled on a Thai website that sold a 5-speed gearbox for a Wave , what happened to that .

One day yes, but Ray has limited time, so we just explore areas as we ride north

Mines an auto and revs a bit and gets hot but new Waves-as we know- and new CT125's have 5-speed.

Day 2. Kanchanaburi Exploring

Today Ray and I had a good day exploring west of Kanchanaburi City.

Our first stop was at Samakkhitham Temple, Sai Yok District, here.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/mqkttjchxDqJx3k7A

From here we went exploring the jungle up a dead-end road, that turned to track and eventually a very steep and rocky track. I stop to assess the way and Ray continued up to the dead end, here.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/njLKH7ZEkg5zwp3M8

We then back tracked  and continued riding towards the Burma border stopping at a reservoir, here.

Ang Kep Nam Ban Thai Meuang, here.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/aZLj7fn7KhRY64VF9

We then continued to a Thai army border post not far from Burma, here.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/7bB3CKWb27j7rmpg9

We then back tracked to Huai Kratha Taek (a reservoir) where we did some track exploring, here.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/2aLbMiJqpFmrifNX6

Our next stop was at Lam Sai Reservoir, here.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/efzhyqxyutaiuoKYA

Unfortunately gates were padlocked preventing us riding the tracks there until we spotted a farmers track that we rode until we arrived at weir that was covered weeds and appeared deep and was slippery. So we called it a day. A 233km fun ride.

Great stuff Chris.

I notice that all the anglers have the reel handle on the right.

I have noticed that as well when I am out fishing, just one of those things I am left-handed with a fishing reel

The reel cant be taken off and flipped ?

I was in my local bike shop asked about the 142cc conversion, they did not know about it, I would say it was imported, probably from Japan.

Then we got talking about tuning a Wave, the guy said about AK Racing, they do new camshafts, probably high lift, new piston/rings, high compretion, and what I could see a reworked head, plus a new ECU, fuel injector, and exhorts, air cleaner, the shop sells the NG camshafts, he said he can do a tuned Wave with all the bits, for about 10000 baht.

He showed me a video of a tuned Wave from a helmet Cam, doing 130km, that sounds a bit hairy,130 on a Wave rather  him than me.,looked at the video AK Racing on his mobile phone, they must have a web sight.

Most you can, it is just a cross shaft, just swap them over.

Can we assume that is where yours was done. Kamphaeng Saen

For when I get to the stage when a larger bike becomes unmanageable.

Hispeedpiston https://hispeedpiston.com/ should have all the parts. Or at least most. They have a bricks and mortar place in Poonthrap Market.

I think that for gravel road riding the last thing one would need is a high rpm cam etc. Although Wave power is lower down the range than a CVT fan cooled scooter.

Maybe a 4-valve head for better breathing and a tad higher comp. ratio? I don't think I'd go to 57mm bore but whatever make a 125 to 142 obviously works. Honda Grom/MSX is 125 I believe; so lots of tuning stuff for that engine.

Based on my Wave 110i experience they get really hot at high rpm cruising that and slow uphill stuff on farm tracks and in the forest.  A clue is the OEM oil cooler on the side of the AT crankcase.

Day 3. Kanchanaburi to Tak

A long ride of 404km today, I must try and find a halfway point to stay at.

We only stop at one place, Carhenge, here.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/VXmg5gdLqbmaJMdw6

Quite a strange place but worth a look.

Brilliant pics as usual.

Sure, some can. In England virtually al right handers use a left handed reel. Here they favour the right handle.

I will find a halfway point in the future. Also along that route the countryside is wonderful.

I was wrong. I wrongly thought that "new" CT 125 was a five speed.  I guess an engine swap with a conventional Wave 125 is in order.

Day 4. Tak to Mae Sariang via Mon Kluy Mountain. We rode R1175 over the mountains to head north on R105 Until turning up the mountain. It was 8 hours plus riding, 322km just that stop. Mon Kluy Mountain, here.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/SQaVxXvHV6zUNZxy8

The track up was badly rutted in places from the rainy season and the farmer trucks.

Day 5. Ray and I rode to a viewpoint, Huai Kong Mun, here to see the sea of fog.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/KyKYKi4NLRE9vnRR7

We then continued and turned onto the track that leads to Ban Sob Moei, the winter rains had deepened some the ruts and it was a bit tricky in places.

At some we took a wrong turn, which luckily turning into a loop worth riding and stunning views to see.

Another good days ride.

Don't mean it like that Chris. I don't think you will be bored traveling this beautiful country. Seeking out new adventures every day.

I was just thinking; do your plans allow you to get home for Xmas or New Year? Do you deviate off your planned route much?

When I went touring for a month back in 2006, every time I came across a nice looking fishing place, I had to rewrite my plans.
