I don't understand why this is so controversial.  In the long run its better than setting up the big tent for events.   Have any of you been to DC in the summer?

Don't care much.  The gold and white looks tacky but no more tacky than other Trump stuff. The real issue is he seems to be so focused on it and mentions it at every opportunity - almost like his focus is off things that may be a tad more important ...

Demolition workers began tearing down the section of the White House that holds offices for the first lady and other staff on Monday. Trump announced that ground had been broken on the project after images of the demolition circulated in news reports, and the full extent of the tear-down only became clear two days later

According to some research on the National Capital Planning Commission 

 

"While the NCPC typically reviews and approves construction projects on federal property in Washington, D.C., its jurisdiction over the White House is limited by executive authority.
 The commission’s chairman, Will Scharf, has stated that the NCPC does not have jurisdiction over demolition or site preparation work on federal property, only over "vertical construction"

 

The Federal shutdown would prevent this Commission from operating.

 

Looked on Whitehouse gov. Have there been or are there artists renderings of the desired Ballroom and/or East Wing publicly released?
