Andrew Defies King Charles Playing the King Behind his closed doors

Despite King Charles III’s orders to scale back his royal status, Prince Andrew is reportedly continuing to live as if nothing has changed within the walls of his Windsor home. Sources close to the Duke of York claim he is maintaining royal protocols and expecting staff to treat him as “Your Royal Highness,” even after being stripped of his official titles and public duties.

According to royal insider Rob Shuter, who reported the story on Substack, life at Royal Lodge carries on as though Andrew’s royal privileges were never curtailed. “Nothing has changed inside Royal Lodge,” one longtime staff member allegedly said. “The butler still says ‘Your Royal Highness,’ and the staff still bow.”

While Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Andrew no longer uses the HRH styling publicly, those close to him say he believes the title remains his “birthright” and that “palace rules don’t apply inside his walls.”

The Duke’s continued defiance underscores the growing tension between the King’s efforts to modernize the monarchy and Andrew’s resistance to relinquishing his former standing. Publicly, he remains sidelined following his controversial associations and the loss of his military titles. Privately, insiders claim, he still rules his household like a senior royal.

As one source summed it up: “To the world, he’s a fallen prince — but in his home, he’s still the Duke.”

Key Takeaways

  • Prince Andrew allegedly ignores King Charles’ directive to drop royal formalities.

  • Staff at Royal Lodge reportedly still address him as “Your Royal Highness.”

  • Insiders say the Duke remains “in his own royal bubble” despite public demotion.
