Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul unveiled the Community Solar Project aimed at lowering electricity costs for citizens. This initiative is part of the government’s Quick Big Win strategies targeting improved local energy security and reduced household energy expenses. The project was introduced with key government officials including Deputy Prime Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas and Energy Minister Auttapol Rerkpiboon.

The initiative involves the establishment of solar farms with a capacity of up to 10 megawatts per community, though sizes may vary between 3 to 5 megawatts depending on local conditions. These solar farms will provide electricity at reduced community rates, thereby decreasing living costs and encouraging the use of sustainable energy. The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) is tasked with coordinating alongside EGAT, PEA, and local bodies under the Ministry of Interior.

Deputy Prime Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas emphasized the project's role in enhancing energy self-sufficiency and lowering costs for citizens. The plan will undergo regulatory review by the Energy Regulatory Commission to ensure compliance, with expectations to present it to the Cabinet on October 28, 2025. Community leaders and energy experts have expressed support, predicting substantial economic and environmental benefits.

Looking forward, if approved, the project will mobilize local administrative organizations to commence implementation. It aims to set a precedent in sustainable energy utilization and may serve as a model for future green energy projects across Thailand. As anticipation builds, the government’s focus will be on efficient rollout and community engagement.

Key Takeaways

  • Community Solar Project seeks to lower electricity costs and bolster energy security.
  • Solar farms between 3 to 10 megawatts will cater to community energy needs.
  • Cabinet review scheduled for October 28, 2025, with positive expert forecasts.
