The Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning about the Herbal Mixed Balm, Thai Eagle Brand, Formula 2, due to its failure to meet safety standards. Routine testing revealed that the balm exceeded acceptable limits for microbial content, posing potential health risks. The balm, identified by Lot No. 060823, was sourced from a shop in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district, and found to contain concerning levels of total aerobic microbes, yeasts, molds, and Clostridium spp.

This enforcement comes under the Herbal Product Control Act 2019, which the product breached. The Deputy Secretary-General of the FDA, Withit Supachaiyagul, emphasized its non-compliance with safety regulations, urging consumers not to use it. Under the law, those involved in the manufacturing or distribution of the contaminated balm face severe penalties, including possible imprisonment and fines reaching up to 300,000 baht.

The FDA's warning highlights potential health threats and legal repercussions, as they continue to monitor compliance among suppliers. Consumers have been advised to purchase herbal products from reliable sources with FDA approval. Shoppers are also urged to discontinue using the balm immediately and report adverse effects. The vigilance extends to the inspection of other products, with officials actively pursuing legal action against violators.

Looking forward, the Thai FDA remains committed to ensuring public safety by enforcing stricter controls on herbal products. They encourage public awareness and diligence in verifying FDA approval on product labels. Continuous checks and legal measures are expected to curb the sale and distribution of substandard goods, aiming to set a precedent for compliance.
