The Pheu Thai Party is set to elect a new leader and executive committee during a special general assembly on Friday. This move comes after Paetongtarn Shinawatra resigned from her position as party leader following her removal as prime minister by the Constitutional Court in August. Her government's handling of the Cambodia border conflict was a key factor in her dismissal.

In the wake of Paetongtarn's resignation, four main candidates have emerged as potential leaders. Chaturon Chaisaeng, a veteran list-MP with a strong democratic track record, and Julapun Amornvivat, a younger MP from Chiang Mai, are significant contenders. Additional names include Dr Cholnan Srikaew, an MP from Nan and past party leader, as well as Sutin Klungsang, a list-MP known for his debating ability.

Mr. Chaturon is favored by MPs who value his commitment to democracy as a unifying factor. However, some party members believe Dr. Cholnan, given his leadership skills, could be one of the party's three nominees for the prime ministerial role. As discussions continue, members are considering the best candidate for the leadership position.

A key meeting of MPs scheduled for tomorrow is expected to encourage a wide range of opinions and discussions. The party is aiming to be more inclusive in its decision-making process, indicating a shift towards diverse viewpoints.

Key Takeaways

  • Pheu Thai Party to choose new leader after Paetongtarn Shinawatra's resignation.
  • Chaturon Chaisaeng and Julapun Amornvivat are major contenders.
  • Party seeks inclusive approach with diverse opinions in leadership selection.

Every single Shinwatr/Pheu Thai leader starting with Daddy....Has been charged with a crime or kicked out of office or forced to resign.

From rice sale scams to cooking shows to tax fraud to hiring criminals, etc, the Pheu Thai leaders have had their fingers in many dirty pies.
