A fourth fatality has been confirmed after a truck plummeted into the Chico River in Bontoc, Mountain Province. Rescuers discovered the body of Carlo Ancheta, from Tayug, Pangasinan, two meters away from the submerged vehicle on Tuesday. The search continues for one remaining victim, Edmund Romero, aged 22.

The accident occurred when the truck, heading to a construction site in Sadanga, collided with a Ford Fiera and a mini-dump truck on the Bontoc-Tabuk-Enrile Road, sending it 170 meters down into the river. Authorities previously identified three victims: Rogelio Romeo dela Cruz Jr., JC Aquino Galicia, both from Pangasinan, and Zoren Jay Luaso Alat from Zamboanga del Norte.

The Bontoc community's Tocucan elders performed a Lumawig ritual before Ancheta's recovery to seek divine guidance. The ceremony highlights the spiritual traditions integrated into their search efforts, demonstrating resilience and unity. This tradition brings together the community in hope and collective spirit amidst the ongoing tragedy.

The operations to retrieve Romero and the truck continue, with local authorities coordinating with rescue teams for comprehensive search strategies. The incident has drawn attention to the precarious conditions of roads in the area, raising safety concerns for travelers and transporters.
