Thailand’s police chief, Pol Gen Kittirat Phanphet, has directed a nationwide operation to inspect and monitor telecommunications signals along the country’s borders to block scammers and call centre gangs from exploiting cross-border communications. The initiative, announced on 29 October 2025, includes strict measures to investigate any police involvement in facilitating criminal activities, with a promise of uncompromising action against offenders.

Pol Gen Kittirat chaired a meeting with senior officials, including Pol Gen Thana Chuwong, Director of the Technology Crime Suppression Center (TCSC) and Pol Lt Gen Jiraphop Phuridetch, to review measures for cutting illegal signal transmissions to neighbouring countries. The meeting also involved commanders from related agencies, convening at the Royal Thai Police Operations Centre and via remote conferencing.

The operation targets internet lines, mobile networks and signal towers along border areas to prevent criminals from bypassing legal channels. Officials will coordinate with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) to detect and disrupt unauthorised high-speed internet links, wireless connections, satellite internet such as Starlink and SIM box devices.

Pol Gen Kittirat stressed that technology crime, particularly scams from call centres, is a national priority. He ordered immigration authorities to monitor unusual entry and exit patterns of foreign nationals linked to these gangs and to integrate this data into broader preventative strategies. He warned that any police officer found aiding or participating in illegal activities would face immediate and decisive action without exception.

Pol Gen Thana added that the TCSC will leverage inter-agency cooperation to systematically survey border areas and assess suspicious phone registrations, signal towers and telecommunications infrastructure. The focus is on closing communication channels exploited by criminal networks and cutting off cross-border scam operations effectively.

Key Takeaways

• Police are inspecting border telecom signals to block scams and call centre gangs.
