Thailand's EC Secretary General, Sawaeng Boonmee, highlighted this timeframe is essential to align with the Election and Referendum Acts, and to educate the public on the issues at hand. As per current legislation, elections must occur 45-60 days from the dissolution of the House, and referendums need 60-150 days. Sawaeng emphasised the need for a 75-day period to synchronise the processes, allowing the EC to prepare voter education initiatives and hold public hearings regarding the referendum content. However, the EC expects the Cabinet's finalisation of the referendum questions by January 28. On election day, voters will face three separate ballots: constituency MPs, party-list MPs, and the referendum. A potential fourth ballot could surface pending government decisions on MOUs 43 and 44 with Cambodia. Sawaeng also noted cost increases for this election due to a rise in eligible voters to approximately 53 million and an increase in polling units to 120,000. To minimise confusion, different colours will distinguish the ballots, with the corresponding boxes maintaining the same colour as their respective sheets. The EC anticipates unofficial results for all ballots will become available around 11pm on election night.
