A Thai woman suspected of involvement in the disappearance of 18 million baht from an illegal business has been found dead in Cambodia, prompting her family to question claims that she took her own life. The woman, identified as 27-year-old Kanokwan “Baimon” Chaluaysaeng, was discovered lying on the ground outside a building in Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey province, on October 29. Her family has raised concerns that her death may have been the result of foul play rather than suicide.

The news was first reported by a member of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Thailand through his Facebook account, under the name “ก็แค่ คนธรรมดา.” The post included a photo showing Baimon wearing a green jacket and jeans, lying motionless on the ground. The IMF member expressed suspicion about the cause of death, noting that there was no blood at the scene, an unusual detail for a fatal fall case.

According to the IMF member, the building where Baimon was found was operated by a Chinese-owned stock trading company, allegedly engaged in illegal activities. He claimed to have evidence of these operations, which he had already submitted to the relevant authorities but could not make public. In an interview with PPTV HD, he further alleged that 18 million baht had gone missing from the company and that Baimon was one of two suspects connected to the disappearance.

Cambodian media reported that a witness saw Baimon pacing near the building the night before her death, appearing to be in a distressed mental state. The witness suggested she may have been contemplating suicide. However, her family rejected this explanation, insisting she had no reason to take her life and suspecting an assault may have been covered up.

Baimon’s aunt, 56-year-old Prapaporn Chaluaysaeng, said that she did not believe her niece was involved in the missing funds. She explained that Baimon had often faced financial difficulties, even borrowing money from family members. Prapaporn said the family shared the IMF member’s concerns about inconsistencies surrounding her death.

With assistance from the IMF and the Royal Thai Embassy, Baimon’s body was repatriated to Thailand via the Khlong Luek Border Checkpoint in Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province. Her remains were then transported to her family’s home in Khon Kaen province for funeral rites. Cambodian authorities have not yet released an official cause of death and the investigation into the missing funds remains ongoing.
