Gun Jompalang Foundation Probed Over Lottery Quota Claims

A Thai charity is under investigation following allegations of irregularities in lottery ticket allocations and questionable political links. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has been urged to probe the Gun Jompalang Chuai Su Foundation and its figurehead, Guntouch “Gun” Pongpaiboonwet, after claims surfaced of misuse involving 200,000 government lottery tickets and connections to the Thamanat Prompow Foundation.

The petition, submitted on November 3 by political activist Sonthiya Sawasdee, was delivered to Police Major General Jruykiat Pankaeo, deputy commissioner of the CIB. Sonthiya called for an inquiry into potential conflicts of interest and legal violations, stressing that while charitable efforts to support soldiers and police are commendable, they must be transparent and ethical.

Sonthiya raised questions about Guntouch’s legal standing within the foundation, stating that he was neither listed as a founder nor as an official member when the organisation was registered on February 5. He warned that this could mislead donors, who have reportedly contributed more than 200 million baht, into believing Guntouch holds an official leadership role.

Concerns were also raised over the foundation’s assets, which could potentially be transferred to the Thamanat Prompow Foundation if the charity is dissolved. Sonthiya argued that such a provision may not have been clearly communicated to donors, raising issues of accountability and trust within the organisation.

Financial transparency is another major point of contention. Sonthiya accused the foundation of failing to submit its annual financial report to the Interior Ministry, as required by law. The regulation mandates all registered charities to file reports by March each year, outlining income and expenditure.

The controversy deepened with allegations that Guntouch received an unusually large lottery ticket quota, 200,000 tickets, despite such allocations typically being reserved for descendants of previous quota holders. “Most vendors struggle to get 2,000 tickets. So how did he get 200,000?” Sonthiya asked. The Government Lottery Office has yet to respond to the accusations.

Guntouch, known as a high-profile online personality and vocal supporter of certain political figures, has not yet issued a public statement regarding the matter. Authorities are expected to review the submitted evidence before determining whether formal charges or penalties will follow.

I want to know why when you buy lottery online it will sometimes say numbers not available. Surely if it's a digital lottery numbers sales should be unlimited.

Unless somehow people might know winning numbers before it's picked 🤔

Why can't the Thai system have outlets that allow you to choose your own numbers..

Think they said before it was expensive and difficult to set up. This is despite the UK having it everywhere since it started there .

Probably because if they had that then not so easy for it to be fixed 😂

My b/f & I had the experience a few years ago of buying a ticket in the local village lottery (non-govt, theoretically illegal but "What did the guvamint ever do for us?)

On the day the draw was to be held at 1400, Cha was rung up at 1100 and told that his number was no longer available or entered in the lottery. He shrugged his shoulders & thought nothing of it.

And guess what number drew the winning prize at 1400 ...

Psychology behind that: Cha married to rich Falang, his family all looked after, give to someone else.
