Severe flooding in northern Bangkok, forced the temporary closure of the Bangkok Remand Prison and a nearby railway side road tunnel in Bang Sue, disrupting local transport and public access. Heavy rainfall caused the Lat Yao Canal to overflow, inundating the road in front of the prison and flooding the visitors’ building.

Prison authorities confirmed that the flooding did not reach inmate areas and that safety within the facility remained intact. Cleaning and restoration work began immediately, with officials expecting to reopen the prison and resume normal operations by Wednesday, November 5. The flooding has highlighted the vulnerability of key public facilities in the capital to heavy rainfall and poor drainage.

In a separate but related incident, the road tunnel on the railway side road in Bang Sue was closed indefinitely after becoming severely flooded. Officials reported that the situation was worsened by the theft of electrical cables, which disabled the water pumping system responsible for draining the tunnel.

The Bang Sue district office said it is coordinating with the State Railway of Thailand to carry out urgent repairs to restore the pumping system and prevent further flooding. Authorities have advised motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area until conditions improve, citing ongoing safety concerns.

The flooding follows weeks of heavy rainfall across central Thailand, which has pushed water levels in several major reservoirs close to capacity. Officials continue to monitor canal and dam levels closely amid warnings of further downpours this week.
