An astonishing and really quite disturbing post. He was first convicted in 1999, sentenced to 4 months for possession of indecent images. You think that was a harsh sentence. Don't worry, he served 8

Sorry, don't care, He's a harmless old guy, show a bit of compassion. Which is worse, an old guy shooting missiles at Arab countries, or an old guy looking at dirty pictures on his phone?

He was released in early 2023 but recalled to prison less than one month later due to breaching his release conditions.

I seem to recall he was caught with kiddie porn on his mobile phone so is clearly beyond redemption.

At 81, and in a wheelchair, I don't see how he could be considered a danger to anyone.

So looking at kiddie porn on his telephone in conjunction with his previous convictions is acceptable just because he can't hunt them down in his wheelchair?

That's pretty sick.

Will you end up in jail if you go back to the UK ?

Claiming that you're a harlmless old guy will not help you evading justice

No, I'll end up homeless if I return to the UK.

If they were gonna give me free accommodation, food, entertainment and health care, I might consider it.

Just learn a bit of Afghani then pay for passage on a rubber boat....sorted.

So, maybe you should follow your own advice and convert to Islam where you will get all that for free

I agree. Online abuse is horrific, the previous poster thinks that's harmless.

Looking at photos, or videos of child abuse (including live streaming), for most people, would not constitute looking at "dirty pictures".

An astonishing and really quite disturbing post.

He was first convicted in 1999, sentenced to 4 months for possession of indecent images. You think that was a harsh sentence. Don't worry, he served 8 weeks.

He ended up in Vietnam, admitted he slept with an 11 year old, paid off the girl's family. Convicted of obscene acts with children. Ended up in a Vietnamese prison, where he exacerbated a heart conditon by buying beer in the prison shop. Served 2 years, deported, traipsed around the world, no one wanted him, before settling in the UK. You think 2 years for sex with 11 year olds was a bit harsh.

2014, Operation Yewtree uncovered evidence of historic child abuse and rape allegations. Gadd was charged, and convicted of one account of attempted rape, 4 counts of indecent assault and one count of sex with a child aged under 13 years old. He was sentenced to 16 years. Sentencing was based on the very young age of the victims, the number of victims, and the elapsed time of the abuse, and that he had abused a position of trust. Sentencing was at the upper end of the guidelines, but was not unfairly harsh, confirmed at subsequent appeals. You think that was overly harsh. Provide examples of comparable cases where you think the sentencing was less.

Served half his sentence and released on licence 2023. Taken back into custody for breeching the terms of his parole, ie a continued sexual interest in young girls, raising the prospect he intended to re-offend. This is what it means to be released on licence; they don't wait until you reoffend before taking you back in.

This thread ought to have united people in general agreement about this odious man. There is a disturbing level of sympathy expressed. No sympathy for the victims.

You are now blocked, i knew you were no good.

Disgusting man, a UK jail is too easy for him.

I bought his hardcover autobio in Chiang Mai recently.

At the end, he says that while glam rock is passing as a fad, his future looks bright in acting.

It just goes to show that life is full of surprises.

I saw the glitter band without him in the early aughts. He definitely had the tunes.

I’m not really comprehending the down votes

I like to read bio’s of English rock stars. The more obscure the better. The drummer for the cure had a great one. As did buster Bloodvessel.

Chiang Mai is like the elephants graveyard of such books, particularly the lost bookstore. Every single two tone act wrote a book that didn’t sell and it seems to have ended up there.

Gary‘s definitely has that as told to kind of writing style, but he seemed remarkably un bitter for someone who’s trajectory up and down was so fast.

Without him, Joan Jett would not have had a career. That’s a pretty small potatoes boast, but his single US released album was pretty much filler-free.

Had he managed to keep his demons in check, he would be at the level of say, Donna Summer’s, but for Glam. He could’ve toured solo and never had to join a package tour forever.

Indeed pixel crime is not harmless. Abusing pixels (by looking at a them) is worse than war crime.

I'm sure you get that in jail.
