In September 2025, Thailand experienced a 14% surge in car production compared to the previous month. This increase was fueled by the growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) and pickup passenger vehicles (PPVs). Pickup truck production, however, faced a decline due to challenging economic conditions and tighter lending policies.

The Automotive Industry Club of the Federation of Thai Industries reported significant figures. In September, 128,104 cars were produced, a 14.01% increase from August 2025 and a 4.77% rise from the same month in 2024. The increased production of EVs helped offset reduced imports from previous years, while new PPV models contributed to a 29.95% production boost.

Exports in September 2025 included 85,625 cars, marking a 2.33% dip from September 2024. Overall, 708,694 cars were exported from January to September 2025, reflecting an 8.46% decrease from the previous year. Domestically, 42,479 cars were produced in September, marking a 22.73% rise from September 2024, contributing to a total of 367,107 cars produced for domestic sale in the year to date.

Domestic car sales reached 48,350 units in September 2025, increasing by 1.53% from the previous month and 23.82% from the prior year. Affordable EVs and attractive features bolstered these sales, but pickup truck sales dropped by 4% due to economic constraints and reduced purchasing power. The exports of finished cars totaled 86,056 units, a 20.90% uptake from the previous month, driven by increased PPV exports and new EV models.

Registrations for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in September 2025 hit 11,906 units, marking an 80.23% rise from the previous year. From January to September, 104,571 BEVs were registered, and the total number of BEVs registered by the end of September reached 330,301 units, up by 59.85% from 2024. Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles also saw significant registration increases, reflecting a broader shift toward more environmentally friendly options.

Looking ahead, the automotive industry may continue to see growth in EV production, driven by increasing consumer demand and continued advancements in EV technology. The industry will need to navigate economic challenges, including stricter lending policies and fluctuating consumer purchasing power, which could impact certain vehicle segments differently. As global market dynamics evolve, the focus remains on sustainable growth and meeting international demand for green vehicles.

Key Takeaways

  • Car production rose by 14% in September 2025, driven by EVs and PPVs.
  • Pickup truck sales declined due to economic factors and lending policies.
  • EV registrations soared, indicating a shift towards eco-friendly vehicles.
