Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and his wife were honored in Singapore with a new orchid species named Vanchoanthe Anutin Thananon Charnvirakul. This tribute was part of a long-standing diplomatic tradition in Singapore, where new orchid hybrids are named to honor visiting dignitaries as a symbol of friendship. The ceremony took place at the Singapore Botanic Gardens on November 7.

The prime minister's visit included meetings with Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Anutin is in Singapore for a series of engagements, including the Set Government Roadshow 2025 and interactions with the Thai community. This event, involving cabinet ministers and key officials, highlights the strong diplomatic ties between Thailand and Singapore.

A government spokesperson remarked that the orchid-naming ceremony is a prestigious gesture, reflecting the enduring relations between the two countries. The newly named orchid, a vigorous hybrid, features elegant inflorescences and blooms with a blend of pale lavender and vivid purple. This honor signifies over 60 years of close relations between Thailand and Singapore.

Prime Minister Anutin expressed gratitude to the Singaporean government, describing the tribute as a reflection of mutual trust and cooperation. "The orchid symbolizes the strength of our partnership and the mutual respect between our nations," he stated. Anutin emphasized the growing bond between the nations, based on shared values and mutual benefit.

Looking to the future, both countries appear poised to continue nurturing their diplomatic and cultural connections. These ties are expected to strengthen further, enhancing regional stability and cooperation.
