Miss Universe Boss Axed After ‘Dummy’ Slur Sparks Walkout

The Miss Universe Organization has fired senior executive Nawat Itsaragrisil after he called Miss Mexico Fátima Bosch a “dummy” in front of contestants — triggering a mass walkout and global outrage.

The scandal erupted during a live-streamed ceremony in Thailand when Itsaragrisil, 60, accused Bosch of “not supporting Thailand” and berated her for missing a sponsor shoot. As Bosch attempted to defend herself, he cut her off, yelling, “I didn’t give you the opportunity to talk,” before ordering security to remove her.

Several contestants stood in solidarity with Bosch, walking out in protest as the visibly shaken Miss Mexico accused Itsaragrisil of “not respecting me as a woman.”

Hours later, Miss Universe president Raúl Rocha announced Itsaragrisil’s removal from this year’s pageant, saying his conduct violated the organization’s values of “respect and dignity.” Rocha confirmed he had imposed “strict sanctions” to bar Itsaragrisil from further participation in the 74th Miss Universe competition.

“I will not allow the values of respect and dignity of women to be violated,” Rocha declared in a video statement, stressing that every contestant deserves to be treated with “courtesy and equality.”

Itsaragrisil later issued a tearful apology, insisting he “never meant to harm anyone.” But organizers postponed the sash presentation to “avoid any interaction” with him as backlash mounted online and among contestants.

Key Takeaways
