I would say that NOBODY is worth a salary of USD$1trillion or even USD$1billion. All his salary will come from the company profits which means 3 things.

1   Less profits will go to the shareholders.

2   His products are vastly overpriced.

3   There are more stupid people in the world than I thought.

Just like sports & entertainment celebrities, if you can generate high income, you deserve what ever high salary you can negotiate.  That $1T has conditions to it, and quotas that need to be met.

 

The more he makes, the more the stockholders make, and they've done very well, especially in bought in at IPO level pricing.   More than a few multi millionaires made simply since Musk's name is attached to his businesses.

I did, but many are claiming starlink is necessary. Hence my question, hopefully leading them to the right answer 'no, not necessary.

Starlink is very expensive for what you get 50 to 250 Mbps,speed   i am on 5G fiber i get 1Gbps and pay less than starlink cost  but if they want to waste there money let them, nobody can justify having starlink in thailand 

Countries in the West should start having reciprocity with places like Thailand on laws and business etc... it's a joke that Thais can do anything at all in our countries (even easily become dual nationals) but we are forbidden/excluded from almost everything that could be benefitial to us. I bet Anutin, Thaksin, Abhisit, plus high-ranking military officers and their mates all have property in the UK/France/US/EU etc. It's BS.

Make sense Abhisit would own property in the UK given he was born/raised/educated there.

Starlink would be a good backup.

When natural disasters occur usually power, phone and internet signals are lost.

Nothing worse for a government than not being able to communicate with the public in those times.

So Thailand remains on a list of a very few controlling countries who restrict what is literally the future of internet communications.

This is the opposite of what they should be doing and will eventually do anyway.

Thailand doesn't need Starlink as it has enough coverage, neither does it need Musk's involvement.

Sounds like you just don't like Musk and that's fine.  My thinking is what happens if there is a natural disaster and there is no power for cell towers (including internet)?  Having satellite coverage could be a comfort.  The people of South Carolina were certainly grateful for Starlink last year when hurricane Helene/Milton hit.  Of course, that would require planning for future events BEFORE they happen.

It like a long time ago when the rural areas had a single phone booth in each village and cell phones came in before land lines could make it to each house.

Hopefully people will still have some charge on phone, have access to power bank, portable generators, ups devices & I'm sure there other ways when in a pinch. It's all about having a connection to make emergency /life saving call or sending email or web based message (not surfing the internet}.

Yes, as we go O&A off the beaten track quite often, and you don't have to go that far.   Why I have DTAC, and the wife has AIS, as at least one still has coverage, usually, if only crappy. 

 

Occasionally both drop, or our phone as a 'hotspot' is much faster than any internet provided, and not because too many users on any router or distance from, as sometimes, we are the only ones at a hotel.

 

Towers start getting a bit scarce as supply & demand doesn't exist.

 

If we go even further afar, NO THANKS, some areas don't have electric or water access, so no accommodations.  Homestays at best, with no amenities

 

Yes, TH, is still very 3rd world, with many modern things.

 

Why I keep mulling over the idea of a pick up / RV, as few hotels off the main roads in some areas, such as area between hwy #4 over to the Myanmar border from Ratchaburi all the way down to Ranong.  Good luck getting signals out there, even GPS (driving directions) drops out, and good to download map before heading out there.

 

Probably the same all the way up North along the border, but we haven't been in a while, so don't want to say.  Although we were on the far side of Doi Inthanon, Mae Chaem district recently  and internet was sketchy.  That's actually not that far out there.

 

Same with some areas around Nan province, and many other areas.  You don't need to go that far of good roads to lose the internet.  Not like we're 4 wheeling it off road in our MG ZS.

 

You'd be surprised how lacking internet service is in some areas.
