A 44-year-old British man has been arrested after allegedly attacking a French tourist at a hotel in Bo Phut, Koh Samui, on November 19, 2025. The assault reportedly stemmed from a jealousy incident involving the suspect’s Thai girlfriend. Both victims were injured and taken to hospital, with the Thai woman reportedly sustaining more serious harm.

 

Police at Bo Phut Police Station responded to the assault report around noon and found two injured individuals: Mr. Mathis, a 23-year-old French national, and Ms. Kanokwan, a 21-year-old Thai woman from Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Richard denied responsibility for Kanokwan’s injuries, claiming she had harmed herself and alleging a history of self-harm. Investigators have recorded statements from the suspect and are awaiting medical reports. Police are also waiting for Kanokwan’s condition to improve before taking her formal testimony.

 

Under Thai criminal law, penalties for assault vary depending on the severity of injuries. Minor assault carries a maximum of one month imprisonment or a fine not exceeding 10,000 baht. If the assault causes serious bodily harm, sentences range from six months to ten years in prison and fines from 10,000 to 200,000 baht.

 

Khoasod reported that authorities continue to investigate the incident to establish the full circumstances before proceeding with formal charges. The next steps include reviewing medical reports, obtaining witness statements and confirming the details of the alleged assault and any potential self-inflicted injuries.

I lived on Samui for a decade and there were always a lot of dodgy Brits living down there, many of whom were fugitives, and likely very low level wannabe gangsters. I avoided them like the bubonic plague.

There's not many really good looking young ones anymore who are trim. So they really might have been fighting over one of the best looking girls on the island, I'm just saying. 

 

Regardless you don't fight over a woman, if things aren't working out you just let her go, that's what real men do anyway.

I'm British and I concur; most claim to be either a gangster back home or ex-SAS. It's actually quite funny.

 

Either way, fighting over a hooker half your age is a rather stupid way to end up in a cell in Thailand

I'm not sure what you're implying that it says about him, she is of legal age and he likes young women I don't see anything wrong with that as long as it is consensual.

I  knew an old guy [RIP Don] who actually was in the Australian SAS . I knew him for 5 years before I found out. NEVER talked about it . I met him once after a trip to Thailand and said  "Don, you must have been in the biggest regiment in the world" .He laughed, knew exactly what I was talking about.😉 I met more SAS blokes in Thailand than you could count🤣

There are so many different levels, or what we might describe as categories between total civilians and working girls. Same in the US, a lot of girls will sleep with an older guy for gifts and prizes, but wouldn't consider doing so without the gifts. 

 

So we really don't know where she fits in on the scale, but we have to assume that money is a component as it very often is. And just because she's older doesn't change that one iota.

When I first saw the photo where somebody is  holding a ruler, I thought the altercation may  have started over the guys measuring the size of their penises and the measurements were disputed.   Appears Miss  Kanokwan was In the bedroom assuring the French guy that one size fits all
