Thai and Cambodian survey teams on 19 November 2025, began a joint operation to map and mark a temporary border along the Nong Kaeo–Nong Chan area in Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province. Unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) were used to capture aerial imagery and establish precise coordinates for the border. The operation aims to support subsequent temporary border marker placement.

The mission forms part of an ongoing agreement between the two countries’ working groups on temporary demarcation along claimed territories (Territorial Integrity – TI). This step is intended to provide a clear overview of disputed areas before the official installation of permanent boundary markers in the future.

The survey is divided into three main sections: from markers 42 to 43, 43 to 46, and 46 to 47. On the first day, work started at marker 42, where drones were deployed to capture aerial photographs and gather mapping data. These will guide ground survey teams in walking the line and placing temporary markers collaboratively.

Both Thai and Cambodian officials reported that operations proceeded smoothly. Authorities emphasised the teams’ readiness and commitment to the planned schedule. The initiative is designed to reduce discrepancies in border lines and prevent potential long-term disputes between the two countries.

Komchadluek reported that the survey and temporary marker installation will continue along the designated sections. Officials expect that completing the mapping and marking process will strengthen bilateral coordination, clarify territorial limits and facilitate future formal border demarcation.

Key Takeaways

• Thai and Cambodian teams are using drones to map disputed border areas jointly.

• The operation is part of a Territorial Integrity agreement to guide future formal boundary marking.

• Authorities aim to prevent disputes and ensure clear demarcation along the Nong Kaeo–Nong Chan area.
