Chachoengsao Provincial Court announced on 21 November that on 12 November 2025, it had sentenced a well-known senator, Mr Thanakorn Thawornchinchot and any suspect Mr Apichai Mumak to four years in prison each for stealing from a deceased crash victim. The theft involved property valued at over 1.5 million baht. The sentence followed consideration of mitigating factors, reducing the original six-year term by one-third.

The case stems from a 31 May 2021 incident in Bang Samak, Bang Pakong district, where the victim’s car overturned, causing the driver’s death and injuries to a passenger. The defendants allegedly removed an iPhone, a Louis Vuitton bag, and 12,000 baht from the scene. Plaintiffs also alleged that additional items, including an iPhone 12, Lindberg glasses, 208,000 baht in cash and a Luang Pu Thuat amulet with a talisman were missing.

Court evidence included CCTV footage showing two men collecting scattered items from the road and placing them in a pickup truck with a covered box. The court found sufficient evidence that the defendants took the phone, bag, cash and gold necklace, constituting theft in aggravating circumstances (nighttime, accident site, use of a vehicle).

However, the court noted that 200,000 baht in cash was later recovered by the plaintiffs and there was no evidence linking the defendants to other items such as the iPhone, glasses or amulet. Given these uncertainties, the court granted the defendants the benefit of the doubt regarding those items.

Khoasod reported the defendants have posted bail of 100,000 baht each pending appeal. The senator has also faced allegations of sexual misconduct reported in July 2025. Authorities continue to monitor related legal proceedings.

Key Takeaways

• A prominent senator and an accomplice were sentenced to four years for looting accident victims.

• Theft involved property worth over 1.5 million baht, including cash, electronics and valuables.

• Some disputed items were not proven to be taken by the defendants.

Thanakorn Thawornchinchot - a more than pristine example a country's best representative and a member of its leadership.

What a despicable character of a body stripping ghoul; it is not what he lifted but the sheer fact, THAT he lifted!

And, in closing, I seriously wonder what kind of sick mind this gentleman must have to even think of such a spineless crime - how disgusting!

The flour politician is proof of that.

The plaintiffs suddenly remembered where the 200,000 was.

Looks like they were all at it.

This is the lowest of the low. A special kind of person that does this.
