The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) arrested a 62-year-old man for allegedly selling counterfeit Ford automotive parts, following complaints from brand representatives about online sales of trademark-infringing products. Officers from the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECSD) detained the suspect, Mr Somporn, at a commercial building in Soi Maen Sri, Khlong Mahanak, Pom Prap Sattru Phai district, Bangkok. The seized items, valued at more than 500,000 baht, included a large quantity of counterfeit filters and other engine components.

Investigations began after ECSD officers received reports from intellectual property rights holders that counterfeit Ford parts were being sold online. Police conducted evidence-gathering operations until they located the premises used to store and distribute the fraudulent goods. A coordinated team comprising ECSD officers, officials from the Department of Intellectual Property and brand representatives executed a search warrant issued by the Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court.

During the search, officers discovered 319 counterfeit auto parts bearing the Ford and FOMOCO trademarks. The items included oil filters, air filters, fuel filters, ignition coils and other components. All items were seized, and the suspect reportedly admitted ownership of the goods and confessed to the charges during questioning.

Police stated that the operation was conducted under the direction of Pol Lt Gen Natthasak Chaonasan, Commissioner of the CIB, along with Pol Maj Gen Thatphum Charuprat, Commander of ECSD, and Acting Pol Col Phuwadet Chulakasawee, Superintendent of ECSD Subdivision 1. The case is now with investigators at Subdivision 1, ECSD, for legal proceedings.

Authorities emphasised that counterfeit vehicle parts pose significant safety risks due to substandard quality and stressed their commitment to continued enforcement efforts to protect consumers and intellectual property rights. Further inspections and monitoring of online sellers are expected.
