And when the UK left the EU, Poles and other EU citizens left in their tens of thousands and the Tory government went cap in hand to beg India for very low cost workers to replace them.

BREXIT sent the European immigrants home and replaced them with people from India, Africa and the Middle East.

Warmings this would happen are filed under ‘Project Fear’.

Not true. The EU settlement scheme provided a VERY easy route for EU citizens working in the UK to stay.

Project Fear was the correct place to file it.

And for UK citizens to stay in the EU.  Happy days when we had freedom of movement. 🇪🇺

Still very easily done with a residency permit.

The EU Settlement Scheme, quite correctly, allowed EU citizens who wished to settle in the UK permanently the chance to do so.

However, the end of freedom of movement closed the door on those who were either seasonal or transient workers, a loss for both the worker - who obviously loses a source of income - and the UK which loses the ability to plug seasonal and/or temporary gaps in the labour market.

It's a truism to say that a UK citizen can "very easily (work in an EU member state) with a residency permit": The difficulty is that it is anything but easy to obtain a residency permit in the first place unless the individual has family ties and/or is being sponsored.

The bottom line is that freedom of movement was good for the individual UK national and good for the UK labour market.

If labour was so in demand in Britain after WW2 to address 'the labor shortages' as you say, why were over 200K Brits (some sources eg Wikipedia say 1 million) encouraged to emigrate to Australia between 1945 and 1972 - the so-called '£10 POMs'?

There were also the thousands of demobbed returning British soldiers who needed employment.

Just as Britain needed workers, Australia needed them too. Britain did NOT ask British worker to go to Australia. That was the Australian government.

You're not really addressing your claim that Britain was in dire need of workers after the war, hence the arrival of the Windrush immigrants.
If so, why did Britain let 200K-1 million Brits emigrate to Australia? They even encouraged them by giving them cheap passage at a heavily subsidised fare - hence the term £10 POMs.
There were also thousands upon thousands of demobbed British soldiers requiring employment.
Whatever the reason for the Windrush immigrants, it wasn't due to lack of indigenous labour as you claim.

The government in it's wisdom goes not allow any legal route,  effectively giving amnesty to all boat crossings.”

Correction, there were legal routes, the Tories cancelled them leaving no option but ‘illegal routes’.

The ‘small boat problem’ was created by the Tories.

You would have to explain the difference between "does not allow" and "cancelled".

Have the current government created any legal routes?

So nice to read a refreshing, Christian viewpoint first thing in the morning.

Does anyone remember the videos of the mexican /central american illegals dressed in tracks suits and chained around the ankles being frog marched up the ramp of the military planes before being sent back  home by Trump ??. Thats what Kisstamer  should do but he is too weak.

The big difference between the 10 pound poms immigrating to Australia and ones in uk now is that they are all single men compered to the 10 pound poms being mainly family groups who went to work straight away and became productive citizens.they were housed in barracks for a start and then moved into houses as they became available.

Yes, single working-age men with no fat breeder wives on welfare, willing to do the jobs that the feckless, white breeder impregnators are unable and unwilling to do.
