Thai army explosives experts discovered a second PMN anti-personnel mine near the site where a 26-year-old Chinese man lost his leg in Khok Sung district, Sa Kaeo province, on November 29, 2025. The man, identified as Shi Jingui from Yunnan Province, was transferred from Khok Sung Hospital to Aranyaprathet Hospital for surgery and is reported to be recovering.

The incident occurred in a suspected hazardous area close to Thailand’s border with Cambodia, where mine clearance operations have been ongoing since November 11. Thai military units have cleared 16,453 square metres of a 288,457-square-metre zone, recovering 22 anti-personnel mines, including 20 PMN mines, one POMZ-2 mine and one PMD-6M mine.

The border region has been the site of multiple mine-related injuries, including seven Thai soldiers earlier this year. Previous incidents contributed to five days of fighting in late July between Thai and Cambodian forces, highlighting ongoing tensions over disputed frontier areas. Thai authorities have repeatedly called for completion of border demarcation and cooperative clearance operations.

Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvaree, army spokesperson, confirmed the area is contaminated with landmines and that Thai forces are clearing them “according to plan.” The Chinese Embassy in Thailand stated the victim is in stable condition but did not confirm his name. Thai officials reiterated claims that Cambodia continues to deploy new mines along the border, though both nations are formally engaged in joint clearance efforts.

Khoasod reported that residents from Ban Nong Chan and Ban Ang Sila villages expressed concern over the delays in border demarcation, which they say would allow for barriers to prevent further incidents. Military and humanitarian demining units continue operations, with explosives experts conducting careful sweeps near the blast site. The discovery of the second mine underscores the ongoing risk in the area.
