August 17, 200718 yr Hi I have a bit of a different to normal situation. 1: I am currently in Thailand, as I have been for 3 years, on a type B, and with a work permit. 2: Almost a year ago, I brought my Mum to live with me in Bangkok from the UK. She is not here on a retirement visa. 3: I am thinking of quitting work soon to take a few months out to relax. Could I get a type O dependants visa on the grouds that my Mum is here on a retirement visa, and is of course family? Thanks in advance for any help Stu

I believe it is up to the consulate where you apply, chances usually being better with an honorary consulate in your home country. Best call or email the consulate before submitting your application. The alternative would be a tourist visa, which gives you permission to stay for 60 days, and you can then get a 30-day extension from any Immigration office in Thailand. -- Maestro The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
August 18, 200718 yr She is not here on a retirement visa my Mum is here on a retirement visa Obviously one of these statements must be false. In any case you do not qualify as a dependent child for extension of stay unless you meet the below so issue of a visa to visit her would likely be your best choice - I would have a copy of her retirement passport stamps to provide Consulate if she has a retirement extension of stay and expect most would issue a non immigrant O visa to visit her (although your passport itself may argue against it being "a visit" as it will show you living here). 4) In case of the ordinary child, adopted child, child of the marriage couple, these person need to be single/never married and has never lived as a part of the family before, and shall not be older than 20 years old.
