A massive fire at a waste treatment plant in Rayong burnt fiercely for nine hours before being contained last night. Firefighters struggled to control the blaze at Chang Steel Recycling Co., Ltd. in Pluak Daeng district, which started around 11:30 a.m., with no casualties reported.

The disaster unfolded at a 10-rai factory, affecting two rai. Under the watch of Rayong Governor Traiphop Wongtrairat, the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office deployed eight fire engines and a backhoe. The Public Health Department advised locals to stay indoors, keep windows shut, and wear masks due to the potential for hazardous smoke.

The fire’s origin is linked to the factory's stock of flammable materials like paper and plastic. Drone technology helped assess the fire, aiding efficient firefighting operations. Residents close to the factory were evacuated, with authorities monitoring environmental impacts closely.

Efforts are ongoing to prevent any resurgence of the fire, and firefighters remain on alert. As a safety measure, officials are warning citizens to be vigilant due to the dry, hot weather often conducive to such incidents, reported Thai Newsroom.
