On December 3, 2025, Chatchai Bangchuad, NSC Secretary-General, confirmed that the emergency decree for managing southern floods is limited to Songkhla Province for now. The decree has a three-month period but can be lifted if conditions improve.

For other affected provinces, existing disaster laws under the Ministry of Interior will manage the response using the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act (DPMA). This act covers the necessary measures without extending the decree beyond Songkhla.

Chatchai clarified that the current focus remains on Songkhla. He noted that if other provinces face issues within normal system capabilities, additional emergency laws are unnecessary. Any need for further legislation would fall to the agencies managing regular disaster responses, reported The Nation.

Key Takeaways

  • The emergency decree is restricted to Songkhla, with a potential early lift if conditions improve.
  • Other provinces will rely on existing disaster laws under the Ministry of Interior.
  • No current plans to expand emergency measures beyond Songkhla.
